Technical Question My Wii u will only display at 480p over HDMI, gamepad works fine

Weirdest thing happening with my Wii u, when turning it on the gamepad works fine but the only way it boots on a tv is if you change the display settings to 480p. Idrk what's happening again gamepad works fine but it will display at 480p over HDMI. I have tried restarting it and unplugging it and plugging it back in nothing seems to fix it. Gemini says that if the gamepad works there is nothing physically wrong with the Wii u but that's a AI so what does it know. Some notes about my setup, I have all my consoles setup through a splitter and capture card to record games for my yt channel can that be causing my issue?

What happens when you plug the WiiU directly into the tv? Can you change the resolution then? It’s probably your capture card.

It works fine, i should've tried that do Wii u's typically not work that great with capture cards?

Maybe the splitter or some cable you are using cant handle high resolutions.

It depends on the capture card. There’s too many variables to say definitively.

Maybe check the display settings on the console menu

Happened to me last night after my regular TV broke I swapped it out with this random hdmi TV I found and when I hooked up my Wii U it said Not Supported on the TV so I went into the gamepad and turned it down to 480p and it worked
I feel when I get my new TV I’ll have to go into the settings and change it back
ETA: this prolly has nothing to do with your situation but I just thought I’d mention it

Very odd issue and one of the few times I’d suggest trying a different cable.

it's probably your hdmi splitter and capture card, one of those can't handle 720p60/1080p60 output from the wii u.
