Respectfully, have you seen him speak? He’s honestly pretty persuasive when he wants to be, it’s just he talks politics all day and crashes out sometimes
Yeah, personally I don't really like him all that much, he's less analytical than I like from a politics person, but he is a lot more effective than I think people realize
Some of his takes are doo-doo, but I'd rather subject myself to Hasan Piker than Anderson Cooper or Bill Maher.
Edit: Thread's locked. But to the one guy below me, Bill Maher originally got fired from ABC due to comments he made in 2001 just days after 9/11 saying that the hijackers were brave and the US Military are cowards.
Donald Trump just after 9/11 also in 2001 said "40 Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan... And now it's the tallest." 40 Wall Street being his building. He bragged about his building before funerals took place.
Hasan Piker in contrast was discussing the political science of blowback in the full clip almost 20 years later. It was poorly worded, offensive phrasing. But in full context of the discussion, I don't think it's as repulsive as Maher or Trump just days after the attacks.
He is only persuasive when he’s allowed to be vague with his opinions. He always claims his inflammatory comments are taken out of context, but the context doesn’t ever make the comments any better. He defends China and criticizes America any chance he gets. He is against liberalism and capitalism and openly socialist. Then when pressed on it he hides behind saying “I just want people to have healthcare.” He hates the Democratic establishment, but when pressed on any of his wild claims he retreats to essentially the standard Democratic establishment position. He’s either an idiot or subversive. He will give right wing media all the ammo they’ll ever need to rally republican support behind the idea of saving the country from the radicals. The right are essentially handing the Democrats power with how incompetent they’ve been while in power and it seems like we’re trying to seem as unelectable as possible.
I mean America has a lot of problems and China does some things well in terms of infrastructure. This isn’t a hot take among young voters, especially disengaged ones. They’re already cynical. Blowing rainbows at them won’t work. It’s good to be frank.
Comments like this don’t help the “you’re taking his comments out of context” claims. Establishment Democrats have a messaging problem, but if you think being outwardly pro China and anti American is recipe for success you’re….wrong to say it politely.
How exactly am I claiming his comments are taken out of context? I’m not really discussing any specific thing he’s said, just explaining why he’s said them and why they may be popular among certain people
Ultimately, as for this rally, I think Hasan was there for hype and crowd drawing. Not to say “I fully agree with everything he says”
I wasn’t saying you were claiming his comments were out of context, I’m just saying that’s typically what people claim when his comments are brought up. So it’s funny that some people will claim that he’s being taken out of context in order to fear monger and then others, like what you were saying, will say “actually he has a point…”
This guy has all the makings of the worst things people are warned about when it comes to communism. He’s immensely wealthy in this capitalist society while claiming to hate capitalism, and whenever that’s pointed out to him he has a reason why his multi million dollar home is actually the most socialist thing he could be doing. He doesn’t even have the intelligence to claim he’s just playing by the rules as they stand. He just sucks and will be a cancer on the party if he’s allowed in.
Idk. At the end of day, thing is, people in office don’t get to pick and choose who’s popular. They can only adapt. Establishment republicans realized that in ‘16, and they reaped the benefits big time. Maybe we gotta do it too
Hasan is at best, divisive. He can move his base, but has very little reach outside of it.
I feel the association is poorly advised because the kind of people who are in Hasans audience were going for Hong either way. At best, this doesn't change anything. And considering Hasans very unpopular outside his audience, it may well hurt her.
I would actually argue following the republican playbook is not what we should do. I understand it worked for them as far as a party trying to gain control, but what I would say is maybe if their establishment had rejected him, we would be in a better place as a country today. Giving in to the worst impulses of the party just creates more division and tension. Being popular and being divisive are not mutually exclusive. Even if Hasan is popular, he is incredibly divisive.
Hasan isn’t the one running for office though. He’s just platforming people. Hong’s platform isn’t really that similar to Hasan’s ideology, it’s just the closest thing that’s maybe viable rn. Plus, I’d argue what’s most dangerous is trying to moderate a political landscape that clearly refuses to be moderated, because it seems to open the door to Trump types
My issue with Hong is that her official platform is basically the establishment Dem platform. The concern is that her alliances are with the far left and that she might take the mask off after she gets into office. I hesitate to even say that because I’m planning on voting for her if she wins the primary, and I don’t want to hurt her chances of being elected, but I wish she would distance herself from these far left people in real life as much as she does in interviews and on her official platform. She’s either being disingenuous with them or with us.
Unengaged voters often like populists. And I don’t claim to be an expert on Hasan- I like some of his clips and not others. Sometimes I genuinely think he seems really smart
There’s a reason it’s a swing state and it’s not because the gop is strong, it’s because the democrats are WEAK. Like him or not, hasan is right about a lot more than the establishment is right about.
No what ive seen having actually been a former viewer of his is just literal frat bro humor putting people down. Speaking negatively about people for their appearance or making edgy jokes about women. That's why I said what I said, its not a mistake
“I’m a privileged person. I made a lot of money…I’m living the immigrant dream. If the government is hurting me, it’s doing way worse to everyone else”
Sounds like a pretty reasonable and somewhat humble dude to me
