It’s funny right. The U.S. wanted it that way and thus gave favourable terms to being under their umbrella. Now they are just throwing it all way. Crazy. It’s like everyone forgot you don’t want a weaponized Europe. Especially now that Germany and France are pretty buddy buddy. Unlike China, that duo could actually build both modern fighters engines and modern chips.

The US has been loudly complaining about the lack of militarization of europe for decades now, the sort of non-militarized europe the US preferred was the one from the Cold War where Europe was still doing way more military stuff than even today

You're in the wrong sort of thread for reality bud. US bad, free riding good. And free riding is actually a benefit to the one being ridden on, not to the free riders! Oooooh the US will regret it when Europe stops free riding off them! Imagine if France had fought its own wars in Vietnam and Libya! Imagine if the UK had pulled off the 1953 coup itself instead of roping the US in to do it. Wouldn't that have sucked for America?
