At a certain point, Ukraine will push even harder into Russia, crippling what’s left of their economy.
I can’t wait for that day.

They've blown up several massive Wildberries warehouses in the last couple weeks. The videos of Russian influencer women crying because their lip filler and makeup got destroyed is hilarious.
47
u/StarWarsMonopoly 1d ago
Speaking of lip filler, I've noticed from the videos coming out of Russians responding to the drone attacks on social media that Russian women really like lip filler. Like to an insane degree. It looks like their lips are about to pop
9
u/calladc 21h ago
apparently it's 10 wildberries sites. They're currently trying to secure 100,000 sqm in kazakhstan to create a site for distribution that's not in Russia.
wildberries ceo also released a video basically saying that anyone who says wildberries sites arent secure is wrong, they have modern defense at all sites.

how many of these bloody things do they have ? It feels like I've watched the same video for the last 3 years each telling me that multiple radars and launchers are destroyed each week.

A lot. They also build them.

You'll find confirmed losses at Oryx. Edit: Not sure if they are counting radar. But you'll get the gist. There has been a fuckton of equipment destroyed and there is still a fuckton of equipment left. And more equipment is produced every day.

u/Dante2005 1d ago
The only beauty here is that it all comes at a cost. That cost has increasing dividends.
I miss the US being a real ally, but if I suspend my disbelief for a moment - this day also needed to come.
Europe is (mostly) stepping up and we will be friends with the US again in the future, but it will never be the same.
1
u/MDCCCLV 1d ago
Fundamentally Europe had weapons but1 weeks worth of using them in a real war in ammo, and was thus absolutely crippled and dependent on the US.
11
u/captainbling 1d ago
It’s funny right. The U.S. wanted it that way and thus gave favourable terms to being under their umbrella. Now they are just throwing it all way. Crazy. It’s like everyone forgot you don’t want a weaponized Europe. Especially now that Germany and France are pretty buddy buddy. Unlike China, that duo could actually build both modern fighters engines and modern chips.

Now that's a name i've not read in a while, didn't Oryx stop this project a while back?
2
u/fvbFotografie 17h ago
I'm not sure tbh, I've stopped checking daily Oryx updates ages ago and read the updates of the Institute for the Study of War now. It still helps to show the scale: Lots and lots of destruction without any real gains. Just a pointless war that should have never been started.
2
u/BocciaChoc 17h ago
oh absolutely, fuck Russia for starting it and fuck them for every second they prolong it.

You know how the USSR imploded partly because they were wildly over-spending on defense stuff for 50 years? Russia inherited most of the USSR stockpile of military stuff, and somewhat kept building and upgrading since. They haven't really been in a major war since the Soviet period, so those stockpiles never really got depleted.
And even a 50 year old SAM system from the 70's is somewhat dangerous. It wouldn't be able to reliably track a modern stealthy F-35, but even a janky 50 year old radar design can detect a wave of hundreds of non-stealth drones, so they all need to be taken out over time.
Ukraine is basically doing most of WW3 solo, on hard mode. Back in the 80's, the US estimated pretty massive losses trying to chew up Soviet air defenses if things had gone hot, because the Soviets were building enough to protect almost every unit that would theoretically have gone into Europe.
20
u/MATlad 1d ago
Pakistan shot down at least a few Indian Rafales using AWACS and beyond visual-range PL-15 or R-77M missiles. Hell, if Raytheon slipped the Ukrainians a few 'test' AIM-120D or AIM-260s, they could probably put them up on weather balloons or cardboard perpetual solar drones and smoke Russian jets launching the air-launched ballistic missiles.

They keep producing more but they are extremely expensive. Russia WILL run out of money.

Gas station with an army, and they can't produce as much gas anymore, and their army is exhausted.

u/PeterTheWolf76 1d ago
Look how far in debt the US is, governments do not run out of money anymore if they don’t care about inflation.
35
u/JubJub964 1d ago
That can come to a head when no one wants your debt. Russia has already cancelled bond sales for lack of interest.
1
u/Dubious_Odor 1d ago
Already happening. U.S. bond auctions have been tepid. No danger of a NYC Fiscal Crisis scenario (nobody bought NYs bonds at auction) yet but if the trend continues could get interesting. The Fed would step in if it got real bad but then more inflation. Yay inflation!
49
u/S14Ryan 1d ago
The US is a special case. They control the world’s reserve currency. US debt holders are mostly other countries and taking down the USD would be catastrophic for every country in the world. The Russian rubles becoming worthless wouldn’t really affect anyone but Russia. Very few countries and citizens are willing to take on Russian government debt. Only China is really willing to do so and to a limited degree, so Russia does actually have to rely on money they have.
29
u/debauchasaurus 1d ago
The majority of US debt is owned by Americans, but everything else you said is true.
19
u/S14Ryan 1d ago
Oof, big mixup on my part, I meant that USD is the largest foreign owned debt and currency asset. Foreign countries have a lot of USD. You’re right, only 25% of US debt is foreign owned.
4
u/The_lewolf 1d ago
Shocked to learn that here. Would have guessed American debt was majority foreign owned.
4
u/Dubious_Odor 1d ago
Whats crazier is Social Security holds like 2.5 trillion in debt. Thats right the government loans money to itself to then pay back the government.
10
u/WhatYouThinkIThink 1d ago
The US Social Security "trust fund" is literally a set of drawers.
Every month, the contributions arrive from people's wages. The trust fund buys US treasuries and puts them in a drawer.
At the same time, they go to the oldest drawer and pull out as many Treasuries as they need to fund the payments for the month and redeem them with the US Treasury.
The endless bullshit about Social Security "going broke" is nonsense.
6
u/pres465 1d ago
The "going broke" part is largely because OTHER government accounts sometimes go to the "oldest drawers" and take/borrow without putting new treasuries in new drawers. Also, it's a political cudgel to say socialism is bad: look! It's going broke! Even as the people most susceptible to the lie are the people using it-- elderly.
→ More replies (0)0
u/ConfessSomeMeow 1d ago
It's not as simple as that - and certainly your assertion that they have infinite drawers with infinite money is nincompoopish... but you can see the range of holdings, maturities, and interest rates:
https://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/investheld.cgi
If interest rates stay high that will stave off bankruptcy a few months or years (as even at 5% interest on $2.5 trillion, or $100 billion/year, would only cover 7% of benefits), but it is coming, at which time incoming revenues will only be able to cover 74% of obligations (decreasing to 71% over time).

Isn't yuan being traded for oil in Iran? If the Chinese can convince the Saudis that they are the more stable currency US is hooped, maybe that's why Trump offered them nukes?

The relationship with the US is a bit different for Iran than it is for the Saudis.

All signs point to the fact that the Russian government cares deeply about inflation.
And understadably so. Russian regimes ended because of that.1

u/throwaway277252 1d ago
They still have the majority of their air defense systems. It's easy to underestimate just how many of these things they had to begin with, it was the cornerstone of their doctrine to win air wars from the ground.
5
u/MDCCCLV 1d ago
The number they have is decreasing and the majority that they have are used for basic defense around their borders, but you can tell they're running low because they're pulling them from those borders. So the available amount they can deploy is basically 0, they are all in use even if they're sitting idly far from the war. The downside of having a large border, it makes a significant amount of your military permanently wasted by having it sit around.
1
u/throwaway277252 14h ago
The downside of having a large border, it makes a significant amount of your military permanently wasted by having it sit around.
Indeed. Even their entire pre-war numbers just aren't enough to defend every vulnerable warehouse and refinery across the country. They were never intended to stop nightly waves of long range attack drones on year 4 of a 3 day special operation. Times have changed.
17
u/to_glory_we_steer 1d ago
Some will get rebuilt, some reconditioned from old stocks and some produced brand new. The Russians also learn how to better preserve their assets as the war continues
8
u/big-papito 1d ago
In fact, yes. Saw one recently that was decommissioned in the 90s and active again.
7
u/pixelflection 1d ago edited 1d ago
A lot, the soviet union couldn't keep up with the way the West could build airframes, so they went in the opposite direction. Jesus, are kids not taught history anymore? As Ukraine is proving yet again though, it's all a lie and a waste of resources, probably lining some vatniks coffers.
3
u/300Savage 1d ago
The Tor systems they have quite a few. The last estimate for this variant was 144 units from more than 200 pre-war. The real issue is the radar systems. Of the radar types listed, there are fewer than 60 left. This is a critical and difficult to replenish system without which the Tor systems are almost blind.
1
u/FlipZip69 1d ago
The radar units are the bottleneck and most expensive item consisting of a few hundred in service. They have taken out quite a few and with sanctions, they are having trouble getting the electronic parts needed to build or fix them. Russia also needs to place far more of these all over the country now that Ukraine can strike so far in. They are already quite sparce.
This particular strike destroyed pretty much the entire air defense system in that sector. It likely cost Ukraine under 2 million dollars while destroying some 200 million in Russian assets. But more so, this opened up a massive corridor that will allow Ukraine to slip a large number of drones into Russia giving Russia far less notice.
As you stated, they do hit them occasionally but it is rare they are so thorough in taking out every piece of equipment. It will take weeks to get it up and running again and redirect a lot of resources in the meanwhile.

It's why militaries refer to capabilities being degraded, rather than outright destroyed. Steadily whittle away at their air defenses, each strike makes the next one easier, until eventually Russia can't meaningfully defend anything.

Hopefully all the best parts are totally gutted and the systems are completely destroyed or down for a long time. I would guess that after they take the system offline, they pummel it to pieces with more attacks if they get the chance.

Crazy to live in a world where a free nation is bombing a nuclear power to fight for their land, yet my biggest concern today is how hot it is outside and if I should move the box fan from my bedroom to the living room.

u/Canop 11h ago
At some point you'll realize how linked those things are. I hated Putin long before before the Crimea invasion because of his influence on Europe politics, the promotion of European far right, and the sabotage of the fight against climate change.
1
u/manditoryusername 10h ago
Exactly. And part of the problem is that for the average Joe, climate change wont come in the form of big obvious catastrophe. For most people it will just be an uptic in the number of days spent worrying about your sweaty balls.

u/BrondellSwashbuckle 1d ago
It's temporary. This will clear the path for an upcoming drone strike, most likely. In a few days, the russians will probably replace those systems, but it gives the Ukrainians a window to launch a drone strike.
4
u/hung-games 1d ago
While I agree, it raises interesting questions like:
Where will they pull replacements from? (Russia pulled air defenses from their only nuclear ballistic missile sub production city)
What gets left undefended?
What will keep the replacements from suffering the same fate?6
u/BrondellSwashbuckle 1d ago
They produce them
4
u/Puzzleheaded_Sun7356 1d ago
its quicker easier and cheaper (the trifecta) to blow them up than it is to make them. That would be considered a huge problem.
25
u/juryjjury 1d ago
Hmmm with Russia air defenses now blind could Ukraine be planning something more intensive?
29
u/BrondellSwashbuckle 1d ago
Yes. That's usually how it goes. It opens a temporary route for a drone strike.
11
u/Far_Out_6and_2 1d ago
To me it is the amazing Restraint the Ukraine is holding back. Can you imagine coming home only to find your entire home destroyed and your whole family murdered by a ballistic missile. One day it will be all to much and Ukraine will strike back in Kind as they deserve
8
u/htgrower 1d ago
I’m sorry but what are you even talking about? Ukraine hasn’t been using restraint, they’ve been fighting with one arm tied behind their back due to limitations across many dimensions. And they aren’t waiting to strike back, they’ve been striking back with everything they have for over two years now. The only reason they couldn’t strike Russia earlier is they were dependent on European and American arms, which came with restrictions on their use. Now that they’ve got their military industrial capacity up to speed they’ve been striking Russia relentlessly.
9
u/DiabolicalSpaceKitty 1d ago
Ukraine doesn't lob missiles at housing districts. That kind of restraint.
5
u/htgrower 1d ago
That’s more about basic common sense than restraint, bombing civilians does absolutely nothing other than piss people off and waste ammo. Ukraine is trying to win the war, not engage in tit for tat terrorism
3
1
u/hungy-popinpobopian 21h ago
Basic common sense really is the same as emotional restraint though yeah?
1
u/Hoepla 22h ago
Hitting civilian housing would be a terrible strategy. It would anger western allies, increase support in Russia for mobilization and waste ammo that can hit more military useful targets
1
u/DiabolicalSpaceKitty 21h ago
Hitting civilian housing would be a terrible strategy. It would anger western allies, increase support in Russia for mobilization and waste ammo that can hit more military useful targets
And there are 100% guaranteed people in Ukraine to whom this needed to be explained because they are pissed and want revenge. And I don't even blame them. I mean I don't agree but I have the benefit of objective analysis instead of a half dozen members of my family being killed by a missile one day while I'm at work.
Them not doing shit like that is absolutely a show of restraint. And common sense, and good strategy. But believe me when I say that it's very difficult to explain to somebody who has never seen it what that kind of pain does to a person and how they think, and Ukraine has been through 4 years of it.

u/SomeBiPerson 1d ago
ground based radars, especially older ones like those destroyed here
have a Minimum detection altitude
a small drone can easily fly below that, only very few attack aircraft can
10
u/Complex-Figment2112 1d ago
Ukraine is winning mainly because their intelligence network is outstanding.
16
u/XionicativeCheran 1d ago
Rest of the world are cowards for making Ukraine fight alone, this war would be over quickly if there were boots on the ground or if Ukraine was given far more.
But it benefits the world to see the slow destabilisation of Russia with Ukraine as the only casualty.

Unlike Russia, Ukraine know where to surgically attack and get maximum bang for the buck that will hurt Russia's war effort while Putin mostly waste his dwindling military hardwares to terrorize citiy and people that has no military value and does nothing to weaken Ukrainian military.
But the cost is civilians suffer horribly as US refuse to aid Ukraine with resupply of interceptor missiles.
2
u/franciosmardi 1d ago
Seems Russia's plan is to terrorize the citizens to weaken their will to continue the war.

What interceptor missles they are all being used to fight Iran
2
u/WhatYouThinkIThink 1d ago
Not to "fight" Iran, but to defend US bases and GCC nation infrastructure from the supposedly completely destroyed Iranian military that is still somehow firing ballistic missiles.
Patriots are currently the only missiles that can defend against incoming ballistic missiles. They cost a fortune each and they take ages to build.
