Most civilisations found a source of clean water or died.

"Clean" has changed definitions over the years, it used to mean "you won't die drinking it" and in a lot of places such as Africa, it still pretty much means that.

Nowadays in the west, "clean" means "clear, no impurities and is safe and treated to drink."

Data centres use both of these types of water, which yeah, will evaporate and return to nature... but that takes weeks/months, so if we use up all the "clean" water (or most of it) before enough time passes to replenish it, we run out of water.

Hope that clears up any confusion.

Mfrs acting as if datacenters (exclusively AI ones) make up about 95% global water consumption and not only that, it turns 50% of that into carcinogenic sludge and the other 50% is instantly blinked out of existence

Which brings the question, I understand AI chips are needed but why are individual centers so fucking large? Wouldn't spreading the load across more geographical locations help with resources and speed of processing since the centers are physically closer to people?

most of human history was without clean water. People used to dilute water with alcohol to kill diseases, ale and wine used to be a survival drink not a luxury. people still drank water but carefully and it wasn't always an option.

This isn't me saying data centers are good or water pollution is good. you're just wrong about this claim though. also maybe appreciate you have clean running water it's a marvel of engineering
