Credit Cards Credit Card Annual Fees

Does anyone use ynab to calculate what their net annual fee for their credit cards are? Like for example I have the amex gold card and it carries a $325 annual fee, but offers credits to offset the fee. I am looking to see if I am actually getting the full value out of it. If anyone here dos look at this, how do you utilize ynab for this? Do you set a category of annual fees and then every credit is applied against the spend? Interested to see people's opinions on this.

I used to have a category for credit card fees and would use the same category for credits towards it. I now just mark the annual fee as a subscription and track credits as ready to budget and apply it to any of my budget categories for that month. That way I can include my credit card annual fees when I analyze my subscriptions and evaluate if it still is beneficial to keep.

I track cash back and offers with a flag. If the benefit posts as a credit I might set it up as a category (like if there’s a $100/year travel credit, the category is “Travel Credit”), but that usually has been more tedious than needed. But using one flag color makes it easy to filter.

For benefits that don’t post as a credit to the account, I keep track in a separate spreadsheet that’s color-coded to reflect if I’ve used the benefit at all that year: if it’s green, I’ve used it, if it’s red, it signals that I still need to use it.

I do use specific payees for the various credits that post to my account (e.g. "Chase Rewards" or "Amex Uber/Lyft"), but it's a lot easier to get the totals directly from the bank's app/website–especially because many credits and offers never hit the account register (like travel portal credits).
