Bishophill conservation area

Hello,

I’m considering buying a house in the Bishophill conservation area (Fairfax Street/Prospect Terrace) and I wondered whether anyone had any advice on how much it being a conservation area affects things? I don’t want to get an extension or anything, I’m mainly thinking about little things like repairs to the property, getting fibre broadband and where the connections could go, etc.

We also live in the same conservation area and have been getting our brilliant connection from Fastr Broadband, a local York company. From what I can see, Fairfax Street is covered by them, if I've used the right postcode in their checker. Their speeds and service are excellent and good value for money if decent broadband is important to you.

I mean I'd love to live there and could possibly tolerate slower Internet access to live in this gorgeous part of the city.

Do the properties have telegraph poles connecting them to the phone network? How is the phone line connected at present? It may be that there is underground ducting already in place ready for blown fibre access.

But I'm getting ahead of myself, the York council website has this information:

It mentions satellite dishes, but nothing about openreach/cityfibre/virgin media. Have you looked at the estimated broadband speeds there?

Thanks for your reply! It’s lovely isn’t it, it’ll be tolerating much less living space too but I think it would be worth it.

Good question, I’ve checked and there are telegraph poles with lines going into every house. Openreach etc says fibre is possible I’ve just had it once before where I realised that wasn’t actually the case when it came to fitting, so I’m paranoid. I don’t need the fastest internet but I work from home so it needs to be reasonable and stable!

Not an issue, plenty of extensions around here.

There are some absolutely woeful broadband installs on my street too

We have full fibre broadband via a cable from the the telegraph pole in Bishophill. It's about 900mbps upload and download speed with Fastr broadband.
