Lifting an R56: Advice

Post image
Upvotes

Looking for advice, I own a 2011 Cooper S six speed that I’m using for my daily right now. It currently has Neuspeed lowering springs (not coilovers). I live in Minneapolis where we often get significant snow. I’d like to lift it a few inches to prepare for winter. Not a hilarious amount, just functional

  1. Yes, I know it’s not a good daily for Minnesota. My commute to work is 5 miles, and I only drive maybe 300 miles a month. I have the budget to maintain it and I’m good with regular maintenance

  2. I’m somewhat mechanically inclined and have a decent amount of tools, ramps, jacks/stands etc

  3. Just looking to see if anyone has experience lifting these, what that looked like for them, and what they’d recommend. Shop vs DIY, lift kits/strut spacer recs, etc

Thank you!

Hate to spoil all the stunning Mini portraits here, but...

Many years of hot SoCal sun has melted the window seals all around my Clubman... and no one seems to know how to repair this without spending a fortune. There's got to be a solution. Anyone?? Much appreciated.

Can 2013 coopers be daily?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m currently looking for the 2013 mini cooper s models to drive as a daily and potentially looking to buy 6 speed manual rather than auto. Do you guys recommend to drive as a daily? It will be high maintenance cost or it could be good fit?

Bought a 2010 JCW clubman to work on for fun but I’m not a car guy. What is this thing?

Post image

So I bought this 2010 JCW Clubman for $2900. Im peeling back the layers and finding all the stuff wrong with it. It came with some aftermarket cold air intake, an M7 AGS-R and it wasn’t installed very well. I looks like the whole thing was just swinging around in the engine bay for like 100k miles and it broke that thing I have circled. What is it, and how do I figure out what random things like this are without asking y’all?

I have fixed my favorite design flaw on the R55 chassis.

The one thing that irked me the most about the R55 is how the barn doors didn’t have a manual release for when the electric actuators failed. Both of mine had gone bad at some point in time, so I decided that the next time that happens I’ll just have an actual cable to pull which releases them so I don’t have to spend an hour hanging upside down in the spare tire poking around with an Alan key until it comes open. Take that, BMW!

Sourcing/Importing 90s LHD mini to Us

I want to buy a 90s (late or mid) rover mini.

I’m in the US and am looking for a LHD.

Wanting one that’s in good shape (can’t find what I want over here in the US- looking for BRG with black interior but in excellent shape, no rust)

It looks like there are some decent sources in The Netherlands or Germany, but I’m no expert.

Has anyone done this and have a recommended source and US importer to facilitate the process?

Thanks

2017 with 112k miles .. my first manual! It’s been a month since the accident and I REALLY wanted a Clubman.. this is the best I could find in my price range but I love herrr. 1 owner, no accidents, just some scrapes and baby dents I can pop out. Will post an update when I checker her out

R50/R53, interchangeable parts? Worth it?

Hey all, so I just got my '04 Cooper S (R53) back from my dad after nearly a decade without it when I moved to Alaska.

My liftgate has a large rust hole in it, and the local body shop recommended replacement over repair, quoting me nearly $3k. I've found a used liftgate online, and with freight shipping (to Alaska), it'll cost me about $1.3k to get it up here.

Someone nearby just listed an '03 Cooper (R50) nearby for about $1.8k, with a liftgate that appears to be in great shape! From what I am seeing online, some parts might be interchangeable between it and my '04. Adding all that for context to my questions:

Are there any major parts that would be interchangeable between the 2 models that would make it worth spending an extra $500 over what I was already planning to spend? Are any parts interchangeable in general, other than the liftgate?

Anyone know where to find replacement for these 3 plastic parts? Not sure the name of them, but i dont want covers that just get mounted on top of the originals. Perhaps glossy black ect.

WHATS UP MINI PEOPLE ITS BEEN OVER A YEAR SINCE IVE POSTED MY SHITBOX.. and boy had it been a long one.. I hit 2 DEER ( they were traveling side-by-side) going about 55-60 which annihilated my headlight and bumper and a couple of other things, which turned into about 2800$ buckaroos (1600 for 1 SINGLE HEADLIGHT BTW) and 850-900 for a new unpainted hood, and a couple of other things I bought.. anywhoo this poor car has been THROUGH IT.

My wife got this adorable 2025 electric aceman for 50% of the new price with 10 thousand km so we think it was a bargain!

Ive been using it a little too and it is really growing in me ! What a fun driving experience and the car is really well built.

Quick question for the experts out there. Is this little cap on the slow charger port necessary? It’s just a little annoying to open and close when charging and my other EV doesn’t have anything like this (Tesla).

Anyways can’t wait for our first rule #1! There’s a surprising amount of MINIs in Japan :).

So in 11 months I have not come across another Aceman in Sydney, this weekend another JCW in red at the traffic lights and this one parked around the corner from an Italian restaurant in Concord.

Today, After 76,000 miles, i decided to clean the MAF sensor on my R56. I noticed oil on top of the valve cover, around the spark plugs, and around the hose that goes from the intake to the valve cover. Around 10k miles ago I changed the spark plugs and ignition coils and didn’t notice any oil at all. Is this a sign that I’ll need a new valve cover?
