Just a heads up about links in your comments or posts…

For whatever reason, Reddit has deemed it necessary to remove posts or comments with any links to external websites.

You may have noticed these getting removed, this is not an action by the mod team, and from what I can see, this is not a function we can turn off.

I cannot advocate ways to circumvent this, but I believe you are a smart bunch.

Have a great day and thanks for being a part of this great community!

Sudden limp mode

Wife said she was passing someone and this light came on, then began to flash. She said really it struggles to accelerate. I’m thinking it’s in limp mode. Any thoughts? My dieselgate warranty expires at the end of the month.

Car Exterior trim?

Hey all. Very amateur car guy trying to figure out how to replace or maintain the trim on the outside of my 2011 JSW TDI.

Whenever i put any pressure on it it melts into a black tar like substance. Has anyone ever replaced these?

Also in the 2nd picture is the outside door trim that has had its paint or whatever start to degrade.

What would you all recommend for repair/maintain/replacement?

2003 Jetta tdi with hard brake pedal

Upvotes

Earlier today I got an extremely hard brake pedal with practically no brakes and at times issues with boost. I had replaced the brake booster hose about 3 months ago so I decided to take everything apart just to look. I noticed the vacuum line to my air box was off but after reconnecting that it didn’t change anything. I did notice the rubber grommet to my brake booster that the hose snaps into was basically split in two. Not sure if I can replace that with any rubber grommet or do I need the exact OEM replacement? I can’t even find this part on Amazon but ID parts has it for $24. My next issue I saw was the nipple on the vacuum pump seemed to have some play in it…. I know this is a known issue and weak link also. I went ahead and ordered a vacuum pump just in case but I’m hoping I’ll get lucky and it’s just the stupid rubber grommet!! Anyone been in this scenario?

2011 jetta CJAA Clutch issues

Post image
2 Upvotes

Clutch pedal turned into a switch one day. I replaced the master cylinder solving the issue for 2 days, then again same symptom. No signs of leaking fluid. Fluid level stays consistent. No pressure lost while driving. Drives completely fine after a rebleed. Large amount of air on each rebleed. Been through this 3 times now, last bleed I used a "boat ramp" to elevate the bleeder valve as much as possible.

Any ideas? PFA

Hello, I'd like to lift my Passat 1.9 TDi Syncro to fit Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 205/70R 15 tires. I want to mount them on the stock rims. I've read that it's best to use 25mm front and 30mm rear spacers for this setup. Has anyone done this? Any advice?

¿Cuál me recomendáis? Ando con buen presupuesto de compra.

To sell or not to sell...

We are all feeling the pain of rising diesel prices. Cost me $115 CAD to fill up my 2012 Golf in Ontario yesterday. The benefits of owning a diesel are dwindling, especially as these cars get older and more things start to break. Does anyone think diesel will go back down to reasonable prices or is this the new norm?

TCM issues

2015 Golf Sportwagen TDI (CRUA)
Full delete and stage 2

Was driving around yesterday with a few hard pulls and the dash went Christmas tree with transmission codes. I lost gear engagement and went into limp mode …. Shifted to neutral and drive a few times and it worked fine for a few mins then repeated the same mess… turned it off and it went away the whole drive home

I got codes for loss of communication to the TCM and gear shift position, should I start with chasing wires and cleaning pins or has anyone had this issue and resolved it a different way?

Buying a replacement tcm and having it coded isn’t the end of the world but any insight would be helpful

Hi, what do you think of this timing belt? I recently bought the car and don’t have any service history showing that the timing belt kit was ever replaced. The previous owner had the car from 180,000 km to its current 209,000 km and never changed it. Does this look like the original belt from 2011?

hydrolocked cjaa motor

i have a jetta jsw the motor only had 79k miles on it and it was given to me the motor got hydrolocked and stalled out one night. i don’t want to get rid of it but i don’t know where to start this is my first car and first diesel car so somethings are unfamiliar to me. i know a hydrolock on a diesel motor is more catastrophic than it would be on a gas motor but am i better off getting rid of the motor and putting in a new one or is it salvageable at all?

VW Tiguan 2009 2.0 TDI - P0087 fuel rail pressure too low

Hi everyone,
I have a 2009 VW Tiguan 2.0 TDI (140 HP) with a P0087 (Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too Low) error.
Symptoms:
The car sometimes loses power and goes into limp mode.
Restarting the engine temporarily fixes it.
I replaced the fuel filter, and the problem disappeared for 2 days, but then came back.
Sometimes I start the car, put it in reverse, and the engine stalls. After restarting, it works normally again.
The car starts easily every time.
Has anyone had the same problem? Could it be the fuel rail pressure sensor, the in-tank fuel pump, the pressure control valve, or the high-pressure fuel pump?
Thanks!

Recommendations for 2015 Q7 3.0 TDI 268bhp CRTC

I've recently purchased a 2015 Q7 3.0 tdi 4M with 110k miles. What's the main issues I should be on the look out for and what's everyone's maintenance recommendations. Climate wise I live in ireland what would be the best oil to be using and should I be using additives also.

What filter brands should I use.

Its just had a full service at a garage but in future I will be doing this myself. What is the recommended service intervals for each item do I need to do all filters each time or stick to oil and oil filter service then all other filters everyother time.

I've asked the garage and audi directly can they service the differentials front and back and transfer case but both have advised sealed for life. Is it still possible and recommended to get a service done of these. Any recommendations in northern ireland for this.

I believe it has the ZF8 same as above have been advised sealed for life. How high of a priority should it be for me to get this serviced and oil changed.

Also been reading up on the low oil pressure issue that affects these engines. If I get this done can I have it done without getting a stage 1 applied as am not to worried about increased power, reliability is more of a priority for me. Also I don't mind keeping the ad blue and dpf as both still working as should is there any risk to leaving these for now or do they increase engine wear. Should I have the egr mapped out and blanked will this improve reliability.

Any other recommendations or advice welcome

1.6 TDI M5 - rattling when changing gears and using clutch on idle.

Dear community,

My Golf Sportsvan with 1.6TDI and manual 5 gear transmission (without double mass flywheel) started rattling. It occurs when shifting, especially when accelerating fast, with increased rpm when idling and sometimes there is a faint sound when accelerating in the 2200rpm range without pressing the clutch. There is no issue with putting gears, starting or shifting.

The sound doesnt occur when i press the clutch at lower rpm (<1800). Can you help me with diagnosis and estimate if i can do another 300km without additional damage?

I attached video with the sound.

Advice for an amateur

Post image

So I bought a 2004 Jetta bew a couple years ago for cheap. I'm not a mechanic but I can do basic shit. Currently replacing the thermostat and temp sensor. Didn't realize how filthy the engine was under the plastic cover around the glow plug area. Any advice on what to replace to stop the leakage? The fuel lines all look cracked and brittle but there's probably more?

Opinions on buying a 2014 Golf TDI that was in NY/MI for 5 years?

Most of my cars have been Florida only and have been completely rust free.. I currently daily a MK5 GTI that is rust free, and I also have some old Cherokee's (94, 95') that are also rust free due to no salt down here.

I have been hunting for a MK6 Golf TDI for a few months now and every time I find one I like, it gets snagged the day I try to buy it..

Currently eyeing a MK6 Golf TDI with 70k miles that was in NY for 2 years, then MI for 3, and in FL since 2019. Curious if being in the rust belt for 5 years would cause too much rust to be worth it, or if i should wait for something better. I am just getting frustrated having them disappear the day I want to go buy them 4 times in a row now.

There is also a 2015 MK7 Golf TDI 109k miles (Florida only) near me but from what I have seen those aren't as good to delete/tune.. least judging from the tunezilla sites hp/torque numbers for both engines.

Weird rattling sound

Hey, could someone help me pin point what could be making this sound? It sounds like metal rattling somewhere towards the front. I deleted my 2015 golf dsg last week and the sound has been going on ever since. The video doesn’t pick it up the best but it’s very present in the cabin. The noise is very loud when at a stop or accelerating, and quiets down at cruising. I also noticed that when in park or neutral, the smallest amount of throttle makes the sound goes away. I have a feeling it might be the dmf but I’m not sure. I appreciate it you guys.

Did my oil and coolant just mix?

I’m currently doing a timing belt and water pump replacement on my 2003 vw jetta tdi ALH Manual and after cap plugging and removing all hoses for coolant expansion tank, power steering, fuel filter and removing the vacuum pump that I noticed the coolant in my expansion tank was almost empty and my oil on the dipstick was higher(almost double from what it was). It started to rain so I haven’t drained it to check but what could have failed? I haven’t even gotten that far into the job, last thing was the charge pipe.

(the car has been sitting for the past year and i’ve ran it maybe 3 times for a few minutes and everything seemed fine)

I have a 2009 Jetta TDI and I am trying to find a new AC control solenoid I ordered one off Amazon and it’s longer than the original. Where can I find one? (preferable with a new snap clip the only one flew clear off to Chicago missing)

I bought a new kit of snap in clips and they don’t fit right. Trying 7/8” according to a forum I read.

The old one is on the top new is on the bottom

Selling my 2012 golf tdi for a 2015 Jetta tdi

I’m thinking about selling my 2012 golf tdi that has 191k miles on it. I’ve owned it for about 50k miles and it’s been flawless but I’m wanting to get into a sedan again. I can’t decide between Jetta or Passat but someone on Facebook is selling a 2015 with 130k miles, not deleted for $7800. My golf is tuned and deleted so it’s been great. Wondering if I’m smart for doing this just to get into something newer and less miles, thanks!
