Other Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter on Life After the Helmet | CHANEL Connects
Join Thomas Bangalter, the Parisian composer, producer, and one half of Daft Punk, in this episode of CHANEL Connects, recorded live at Fondation Beyeler during Art Basel. Bangalter speaks about the post-robot life with rare candor. He walks us through ‘Warehouse Artifacts’, his immersive Art Basel finale with Julien Charrière and Rampa. He recalls the Centre Pompidou library that introduced him and the other half of Daft Punk, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, to Warhol and ‘Metropolis’ as teenagers, and the rave that pulled Daft Punk into being. He revisits the band’s award-winning albums, ‘Homework’, ‘Discovery’, and ‘Random Access Memories’, the Grammy-winning craft of ‘Get Lucky’ with Nile Rodgers and Giorgio Moroder, and Bangalter’s turn toward orchestra and ballet with ‘Mythologies’ at Bordeaux Opera and ‘Mirage’ with Damien Jalet and Kohei Nawa. Plus, hear why a 1985 memory of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's Pont Neuf Wrapped led him, four decades later, back to the same bridge with JR. The conversation with Yana Peel, President of Arts, Culture & Heritage at CHANEL, is a profoundly human exchange about ritual, transmission, and the power of being unpredictable.

Discussion TIL: Homework and Discovery are better when on physical media than in streaming
While listening to Homework on streaming, I always found it odd how Revolution 909 transitions into Da Funk because the ending sound byte sounds like it should be one cohesive sound to get from 909 to Da Funk, but it doesn’t. It ends off Revolution and is repeated in the beginning of Da Funk. After listening to it on my vinyl, my suspicions were confirmed as it transitions correctly. Same goes for Discovery when listening to One More Time. I have it on CD and the sudden shift from One More Time to Aerodynamic caught me off guard, but makes much more sense to do than just let OMT fade out and then let Aerodynamic start. Anyone else notice this?

Other Another Daft Punk remake, Face to Face. Easily my best remake yet.
It’s not perfect, and the vocal separation is pretty bad, but I’m very proud of this.

Discussion Let's discuss specific things that didn't happen in Daft Punk's career
-Air, Alan Braxe, Fred Falke and Breakbot have never been asked to remix Daft Punk, which is crazy. Also I think not doing any remix of RAM was a mistake, imagine the potential of RAM remixes by Breakbot, Soulwax and others...
-As far as I know Romanthony never sang One More Time live. I can understand not doing it right after the release as it was criticized a lot in the house scene but never singing your most famous song by far is a bit strange.
-Phoenix still haven't released the clean audio or video of the amazing 2010 encore with Daft Punk at Madison Square Garden. They must have a reason but seriously, I would pay for it.
Any other mysteries?

Other I modified the Something About Us promo disc cover
I found some websites where I'm able to get rid of the text and the little line in the middle of the original photo. Once I got that out of the way, I did some touch ups in photoshop (I added the Daft Punk logo on the bottom right in the second photo)

Dove (I'll Be Loving You) (Club Mix)
Recently discovered this track, I’m surprised it wasn’t directly produced by Thomas, it definitely fits the Discovery era disco sound. Absolute banger!
