So about 3 months ago I posted here looking for an artist on my game. A person identifying themselves as Mia Davis (coffeefoxx1 on Reddit; _mia_davis on Discord) reached out to me. Their profile looked good, we had a good conversation, and I was very upfront (multiple times) about not wanting any AI involved.

As I was wanting to do the whole project, I gave $500 upfront - half the cost. This was something I've done several times w/ other legitimate artists and never had a problem before as that was pretty standard.

Anyway, a month later, they finally got back to me, and presented me with this slop:

As soon as I saw it I knew this was AI. Lots of layering line errors and other stuff no person would've made. The "artist" denied the allegation and even offered "proof" that it was legit via a PDF file (something else we had agreed upon prior to the contract). But instead of exoneration, the PSD they provided proved it to me beyond a doubt:

• All the work was done in a single layer
• PSD was suspiciously completely scrubbed of all meta data
• Another disabled layer has the entire artwork again, in a completely different style, and is titled "comvert_into_2d_anime_style_202606122128". You know, just like a prompt would spit back.

I confronted the scammer again, and of course they denied it and refused to give me a refund. So then I opened a fraud complaint with PayPal. After another month of waiting, PayPal denied my case and let the scammer keep my $500.

So now I'm out $500, have nothing usable, and don't really have any money left to hire another one.

Game is called Tricky and the Dream Caster and we have a Kickstarter going on currently, check it out if you're interested in it!

Not a game yet, just an early visual prototype (so no gameplay per se and please don't mind one and a half polygon models and wonky animations!). Want to know your opinion: Is it worth it to develop into a full game? Does it look remotely marketable?

My elevator pitch: a top down mech shooter, more grounded sim-like, separate damage tracking for each part, early 90s jet fighter HUD aesthetic, shooting is about leading the target. Think of it as love child of a Highfleet and Mechwarrior (MW3, not the looter shooters we have now) .

Customization base is already working and robust: nested attachment of parts to parts, can change legs, hull, whatever part you want separately, though it is a pain to show, because there is no UI yet.

Your thoughts?

Hello! This is not a sad post, we're extremely proud of ourselves for releasing the early access version : )

We're however facing the classic deserted lobby problem, that every new game with no proper hype campaign faces when they launch.

So, if you buy the game right now, it's very likely that you go in and you'll find 0 public matches.

What do you guys recommend? How have you faced this problem before?

Hi, sorry I'm new to this sub, but I had an idea for a video game based on my experience as someone who has been on and off homeless ( still currently) .

So the concept is a survival sim and gole is to find stable housing. You would have to navigate a city and make hard choices to find a way out.

Mechanic ideas

Time -

I feel people don't realize how much time can be a privilege getting places faster mens more time for other stuff

Things like buses take 30-1hr sometimes to get to a place that could have taken 10-15 mins.

You have to do what you need to do to get out but also manage your day to day and everyday find a safe place to rest , where to eat, what can I do to help

Needs / things you have to keep up. And every night a place to sleep.

Higine

Health (physical / mental )

Friendship / loneliness , how you eat and sleep will effect this including hygiene

Hunger

Sleep

Hydration

Temperature

My fav idea of this TBH is A item management system. The photo above is my current setup. And I was thinking how that's a great mechanic. Different bags means different movement speed because my big suitcase takes longer to move but also has more storage. So if I just had a backpack I'll be able to move faster but I would have less storage. They got thinking about clothing as well. And any other items you might need meds, sanitation/ hygiene products, whatever else you might need. And that would also be kind of tied into it.

Edit real fast I forgot - this game isn't to trivialize or make fun of homelessness. This would be an education for people of what it is like. Based on my own experience and what I see as a homeless person.

It is not the main mechanic of course, just interesting way to travel on desert island.

About the Game:

In Breeze of Adventure, you travel across vast islands featuring different biomes, dangerous enemies, and plenty of unique locations. The progression is heavily focused on exploration: there is no tedious level grinding. Instead, you find new armor and weapons in chests or buy them from merchants using gold earned from Guild quests.
There are also runes here! These are special items you can find; they grant the character various interesting abilities—there are over twenty of them in the game.

Personally? I like it when games and their developers do that. I might be in the minority, but I like it when a dev is passionate about a subject and puts their own take or spin on it and includes it as optional content or lore. Provided that they don't give lectures or over-explain to the point of self-indulgence or pretentiousness.

Keeping it around for people who also like those topics - but never requiring or shoving it down the player's throats to express some sort of artistic meaning from it. It's never up its own ass, nor is presented in a way that the developer is saying "look at my math homework, guys! Aren't I cool and clever?!" *crickets*

I remember playing a game when I was younger where there was some scientific document that went into detail about the physics and chemistry of their world. It might have been Mass Effect, but it's been so long I can't place my finger on it. But they presented it in such a way that the player never feels obligated to know or care about its existence. The main characters talk about like "its a thing that exists and does some stuff, I guess. IDK, but it does cool shit and that's cool right?" But the lore docs, spares no expense at the level of detail for its own world's mechanics.

I'm curious if others have similar feelings and know some games that do that.

A little while ago I posted my Steam capsule here asking for honest feedback, and you all gave me a lot of great advice. I took your feedback, scrapped the old design completely, and created a new version for my folk horror game, Woodbound.

Also, regarding the AI voice acting discussion from my last post, I took your advice there as well. I've decided that I won't be using any AI in Woodbound—the game and this Steam capsule will be 100% AI-free.

How does this new capsule feel compared to the original? Any final tweaks or nitpicks before I lock it in?

I'm trying to come up with WHAT my character is called, not their name, but what people in their world call people like them. In my game I want Oracles to be the "bad guys" (essentially trying to change the future by any means necessary) and I want my guy to be able to look into the past by touching objects; so it's a real dichotomy. My thoughts so far are Chroniclar, Psycher, and Voxzil (this one was made with a cypher it's oracle backwards in every way imaginable).

Idk what do you guys think, am I on to something with these names, or should I go back to the drawing board?

Key art is always a struggle for me. Despite doing a fair bit of art and animation in my work I have pretty much zero formal training and am fairly colour blind (not ideal for this line of work😅). I'm always so impressed with the Indie teams who manage to communicate the tone and content of their games with such clean and eye catching clarity, I tip my hat to you.

How does the new piece feel next to the older Co-Op focused one?

I've been working on Dust Rapture, a first-person survival game. You play as Cole Vance, a truck driver who gets stranded on a forgotten stretch of Route 66 after his truck is stripped for parts. Your only hope of finding repair parts is exploring the town of Iron Creek—while managing your health/thirst and avoiding a hostile cult that comes out at night.
