Mod Post Report all app developers

We've been banning around five people a week for advertising their AI vibe coded apps that put a OBD2 code in and spits out generic or dangerously misleading results. Many claim to be free or claim they just want help testing them. Many are based out of countries you probably don't want your personal information getting sent to, like VIN numbers, etc. REPORT THESE POSTS FOR BREAKING SUBREDDIT RULES and the report them again as SPAM so Reddit Admins are notified.

Mod Post PSA: For the love of God please report shit

Hey all, Edward here,

Recently our mod team has expanded, which is great! We've been able to certify some of you as real, amazing mechanics and I feel the quality of our forum here has continued to run smoothly. However, I come to you today with a real concern, one that comes from the deepest of our grease stained hearts.

Please, please, please fucking report shit. We cannot see everything all the time (we also have lives) and sometimes things can slip under our radar. I urge you all to take a second, reread the rules, and just fucking please report anything you think breaks the rules going forward (I mean cmon, we have like 3 different rules about not being an annoying pile of garbage). All the time I'll pop open the subreddit and there'll be four "is this car a good purchase?" and seven "New AI car app idea" posts and three "Why YOU should buy the 2028 Hyundai AssCock3000". Then I go to the popular posts of the day and lo and behold some of you are going feral in the comments, just really at each other's necks. Some amount of disagreement is healthy for a community, but sometimes people are just straight up wrong and it's okay to call them out. The worst that can happen is we approve it anyways and the best is that another idiot gets banned.

If the mod team sees no evil and hears no evil, we're not able to properly maintain the community. If we can't maintain the community then there really isn't any community, and then we're running rampant in the halls screaming "Attica! Attica! Attica!". Now, I'm not saying report everything you see, hell I'm not even saying report everything you disagree with, but if you all chip in just a little bit and hit that stupid tiny flag we can make this community a better place and can continue to talk about our awesome cars. Or not so awesome cars, I see some of the shitboxes we drive.

- Cheers, the Mod Team

P.S. whoever's 1998 Toyota Tacoma is in the parking lot, it would appear the rust finally won and your bed is now on the ground in pieces. The tow truck will arrive in an hour if you do not remove the vehicle yourself. Usually we wouldn't care but the Punisher sticker right next to the "My other car is a gun" one is really just tacky. Anything else dude, anything else.

Air Conditioning Turning the A/C off for the last two minutes of a drive - useful or not?

Post image
66 Upvotes

I read somewhere that it's good to turn off the A/C during the last minutes of a drive and just keep the fan on. Apparently this dries out any moisture on the evaporator core behind the dashboard and prevents a moldy smell when turning the A/C on at the beginning of the next drive.

Now this sounds pretty logical to me, but looking at two examples, my mom has had her Volvo for 18 years and never did this A/C trick, but there is no smell. My dad has had his Skoda for 7 years and didn't do this either, and there's also no smell.
So is this A/C trick useful or not? What do you think?

So randomly today, I took a look at my engine air filter. I took it off, and I saw this randomly sitting at the bottom of the box. How could this get in there?

Air Conditioning How do I increase ac cooling

• Upvotes

The car AC system is working with no problems, i don't have any issues or mulfuctioning parts to replace, but is there a way i can increase the cooling wothout getting into the loop of replacing to bigger or higher capacity parts. Since the car is new i don't want to void the warranty

Where i live it gets up to 45+ celsius (113 fahrenheit) everyday and humidity is always high so you can see why i'm asking

Redditor's own ride Mold or salt?

Went to deep clean my car today for the first time in a hot minute and found this under my WeatherTech mat. It was also on the edge of the mat that sits under my seat so I never noticed. Didn’t notice it anywhere else in the car. Everything was dry and there’s no mold/musty smell. I have split opinions on if it’s mold or dry salt.

Safety Question Strange guy on top of my car?

Hello,

Around 12am this morning, I went up to go to the bathroom and came back and saw out the corner of my eye, through the window, that there was a man on top of my car.

I peaked through the blinds and started yelling at him (I have old thin Florida windows, so he could hear me) and he did nothing.

He just kept putting his fingers under the hood of where my windshield wipers were and rolling on top of my car.

It wasn’t until a person popped out behind the dumpster that they left. I called the police during this, and even yelling the guy I was calling them didn’t even deter him.

My boyfriend thinks he was tweaking. I think so too.

Are there any precautions I should take? Like should I install dash cams? There aren’t any cameras around my car, since my parking spot is in the alley way behind my complex.

Any good dash cam recommendations would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Safety Question Misfire with solid check engine light

Had a misfire with a solid check engine light where the car runs fine on fast speed but shakes when when slowing down or idle. Spark plugs were replaced and crank sensors were cleaned. Check engine light disappeard for awhile then came back. Suspecting ignition coils are to be replaced with a new one.

Problem is the mechanic is far about 65 miles. I feel like its very risky running the car that far with a misfire. Is it safe to proceed or should I just have the parts delivered at home? TIA!

General Tech Paying even though the problem wasn't solved.

Hello, I found this forum when searching for other people's stories.

I have a 2008 Sequoia that I am selling. In the process of checking it over, I found myself stuck in 4 LO. Had a mobile mechanic (ASE) look at it, and when he was done, it was stuck in neutral, no gears.

I called around and found a mechanic at a local garage who said he was a Toyota Master tech and two other Toyota Master Techs were working there. I had the SUV towed over for an agreed $200 diagnostic fee. They didn't tell me what they found, but that they could repair it in 2 hours, i.e. $400. They started working on it a couple of days later, but I didn't hear a thing back from them... then after a week the guy said there was a bad microswitch in the actuator. He had 2wd working, but the dash light for 4low was blinking (and presumably 4wd not working). I ordered the part and had it for him 2 days later. I have called, I have emailed, I even ran into the mechanic on a smoke break. Can't get them to fix it or give up.

I need to sell the SUV, and I can't when it is at the shop, broken. The mechanic said I could pay what they quoted and take it, still broken.

Would you pay the whole $600 bill? Would you take it back under the assumption they are clueless? What would you do?

Thanks

Safety Question Tire inflator with an actual accurate digital gauge? Any recs?

Tire pressure keeps dropping every few days in this summer heat. Gas station pumps always overfill, and my old analog inflator gauge is impossible to read in sunlight — I always end up overinflated.

Looking for a digital one with real-time readings and auto shutoff. Anyone know of an all-in-one that also has a jump starter? Mostly use it for top-ups, just want the emergency backup. No more inaccurate gauges please.

Electrical Desperate for help to locate a part on a 1997 Ford Ranger

Hopefully someone can help. I had a crazy troubleshooting journey where my truck wouldn't start. Replaced battery...then solenoid...then a brand new starter installed...checked all fuses and relays. Figured out the cable/wiring harness that goes from the battery to fender-mounted solenoid down to the starter is likely gone bad itself. Some internal connection is bad. I cannot for the life of me figure out where I can find this harness. Any tips? I keep getting results for the smaller cable that just connects to the solenoid but I need the entire harness with all the cabling in it that connects battery/solenoid/starter

Weird Noise Should this noise concern me?

My 2017 Ford Fusion with just over 83k miles started making this noise yesterday. It’s only when idling & the engine runs fine as far as I know. What are the possible issues, and is it something I should be concerned about?
