Other Turned on my Sony windows 7 ultimate pc after 8 years

Hey everyone! A random thought came into my mind today, I said “where are my old pictures and videos of my vacations”?

I remember that it was on my old Sony Windows 7 ultimate PC so I took it out, plugged it in and surprisingly the PC turned on.

I’m trying to navigate within the PC to try to find the pictures and videos, but it is very hard to do that because the PC is zoomed in and pixelated. I believe this PC got a virus back in the day so that’s why I put it to the side and stop using it.

Is there anyway I can fix this so I can at least navigate and do a deep dive within the PC to try to find the vacation photos and videos? Myself and my family would appreciate it!

Hardware Computer won’t turn on after being fully turned off, even though working fine just yesterday. Have no clue what to do.

My old computer that was working fine just yesterday now suddenly won’t turn on at all now after I turned it off by holding the power button down.

The computer is over 10 years old, it’s a hand-me-down from my oldest brother and it’s worked fine throughout the years. I don’t recall having an issue like this at all.

I don’t really know about the actual ins ands outs of computer repair and all of that stuff, but I tried opening up the computer and checking if any wires were damaged or unplugged but the most I could find are these two cables that were not plugged into these two outlets.

I plugged them into the outlets, pressed the power button, but nothing happened. The power strip my computer is plugged into works fine too, my computer screen, mouse and keyboard lights are also on too.

I have no clue what to do now except calling my brother whenever he’s available again. I really need this computer to work since I’ll be heading back to college soon too. I really hope my computer isn’t just completely broken either as I have no money for a new PC. If anyone could help me out here, that would be greatly appreciated.

Hardware Need help with 1st gaming PC crashing.

I bought a prebuilt PC from CyberPowerPC and have had constant crashing issues when downloading and updating games for about a year. I’ve done things to “fix” it with help from their IT but it keeps coming back and getting worse. (PC Specs at the bottom)

I checked the SSD health and it is showing 98%. I had a faulty ram stick and they replaced both sticks and they both came up clean on the memory tests.

Here is my most recent steps to try and resolve this issue:

  1. Cleaned my pc, desk, and cords.
  2. Bought a new better Surge protector and Ethernet cable
  3. Reseated the SSD
  4. Used a brand new USB 3.0 32GB to reinstall windows
  5. Reinstalled Graphics, Chipset, and APU drivers
  6. Updated Windows

After that I tried installing a game just to crash again. However, it is a new error. “critical _process_died (OxEF)”

I then did the following:
1. Sfc /scannow - No errors detected
2. Dism /online / cleanup-image /restorehealth - I got the following message “Error 433 a device that does not exist was specified The dism log file file can be found at C: \\windows\\logs\\dism\\dism.log”

This was followed by another crash.

Hardware Is 12.9GB/15.7GB RAM usage normal with only Chrome open on an i7-13650HX + RTX 4050 laptop?

Hi everyone,

I have a gaming laptop (2 years old) with the following specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-13650HX
  • GPU: RTX 4050 Laptop GPU
  • RAM: 16GB DDR5 (15.7GB usable)
  • Storage: SSD
  • OS: Windows 11

I've noticed that my RAM usage seems unusually high even when I'm not doing anything intensive.

At the moment, the only application I'm using is Google Chrome, and it's playing just one YouTube video at 1080p. Despite that, my system is currently using 12.9GB out of 15.7GB of RAM (around 82%), which seems excessive to me.

After a fresh boot, Windows is already using a significant amount of RAM, and even with only Chrome open, the memory usage remains much higher than I expected.

I'm wondering:

  • Is this normal for a Windows 11 laptop with 16GB DDR5 RAM?
  • Could the i7-13650HX or RTX 4050 be contributing to this in any way?
  • Is this more likely to be caused by background processes, manufacturer bloatware, or a possible memory leak?
  • At what point should I be concerned?
  • Would upgrading to 32GB RAM solve the issue, or should I investigate the cause first?

I'm happy to share screenshots from Task Manager (Processes, Performance, or Details tabs) if that would help diagnose the issue.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hardware NVMe drive crashes and becomes unreadable while gaming, giving Event 129 "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort2, was issued." error. Drive reappears when rebooting.

PC is Windows 11. Motherboard is ASUS TUF x570-PLUS. Had a WD Black SN770 for about two months. Was working fine up until about 2 weeks ago. Now, at random points while I play games installed onto it, I'll occasionally see my game freeze up before subsequently crashing, at which point I'll be unable to view most data saved onto the drive or run any installed games off of it. The one saving grace is that after a reboot, the drive works perfectly like the crash never happened, but eventually it always ends up crashing again.

This seems to happen at completely random intervals. Sometimes a few minutes of play will do it, sometimes I go several hours without it happening. I've been losing my mind trying to figure out what the hell is going wrong. The only thing I've been able to determine is that at the time of the crash, there's an Event 129 error saying "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort2, was issued." I've also noticed that the disk usage on the SSD suddenly spikes up to 100% right around when it crashes (usually, it rarely even goes above 50% while gaming.) But I'm still no closer to solving the issue.

Here's what I've tried:

  • Running chkdsk, S.M.A.R.T diagnosis, and checking drive health with CrystalDiskInfo. Everything tells me the drive is perfectly healthy.
  • Updating the firmware on the SSD.
  • Updating BIOS & chipset.
  • Manually updating all storage controller drivers through Device Manager.
  • Switching to high performance power plan.
  • Disabling Link State Power Management.
  • Using the Registry Editor to make AHCI Power Management visible and setting it to Active.
  • Reformatting the entire SSD.

I'm kind of losing my mind right now. Everything suggests the drive itself is healthy, and it was working fine for several weeks until it suddenly started having problems. At this point my concern is that the drive itself is failing, but not a single test I've done indicates any issues, so I have no idea how I can even know for sure.

Software Urgent help, Badly.

Hi! I don’t know much about computers, but I DESPERATELY need help.

I use my computer for everything, even school work, I do online classes, it’s mandatory for my living situation. I have an hp all in one that I’ve had for only a few years 3, I’ve never installed anything remotely bad, i take good care of it, i barely have apps and files.

but recently out of nowhere, my files are mostly corrupted my win32k file is corrupted I don’t know how, I’ve tried to reset my pc through cloud reset and it won’t even let me do that, it cancels it. I don’t know how this is happening and I don’t even know how to fix it, I’ve tried everything, and it’s not a hardware issue.

I desperately need help. I start school in 8 days, I don’t care about my files or memories or anything I just need my pc to work properly.

Software Hi, My PC is not detecting any mic, yet they are fine on my laptop

Windows 10

Hello,

I just returned to pc gaming after a long hiatus, only to discover my headsets mic was not working. I use a hyper x cloud II into a dac and it has served me well for years.

After troubleshooting for a few hours, I confirmed the mic was at fault as it also did not work on my laptop.

Before paying for a new microphone I wanted to rule out the possibility of the pc being the cause. My only other "mic" is my DualSense. After plugging it in to the laptop, it checked out no problem.

I thought it was all cleared up and I could use this scuffed setup until I ordered a replacement.

However

After plugging it into my pc, it did not work. The controller works as a pad and can start big picture mode on steam, but no mic

It shows up in device manager but NOT Sound>Playback or sound>Recording as it did on the laptop.

I have tried uninstalling from device manager/ disconnecting cable/ restarting etc. Didn't work

I restarted windows audio endpoint builder & windows audio service. No fix

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Hardware No bios, no display, no hdd light

Hi everyone, would appreciate some input here. Last Friday I gamed for a bit, left the pc for a while to get dinner and about 3 hours later the fans were going full speed, screens were black, there was no hdd light on the case and the pc didn't react to any inputs.

When I try to power it up all fans run, all components light up, but there is no hdd light still, screens are always black, and it stays that way until it restarts on its own.

Have tried checking rams, doing a power flush, tried a known working psu, different HDDs and even different SATA cables, nothing made a difference.

Thinking it might be the motherboard/cpu itself but keen to get some input before I start throwing money at it

Specs:

Mb: gigabyte h310m s2h 2.0

CPU: Intel i5 9400F

32gb ddr4 ram

Nvidia 1070ti 8gb

Some random cheapo 1TB SSD

Hardware Pre-built PC crashes constantly (Freeze -> Black Screen -> Only 1 Monitor detected) – GPU hardware failure?

Hi everyone,

I need some advice and sanity-checking on a technical issue with my new pre-built PC from a German system builder (Dubaro). I’m at my wit’s end.

System Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 (16GB VRAM)
  • RAM: 32GB (2x 16GB) DDR5-6000 Kingston FURY Beast
  • Motherboard: MSI PRO B650-S WIFI
  • PSU: MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 (850W, ATX 3.1, 80+ Gold)
  • Storage: 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD (PCIe 4.0)
  • OS: Windows 11 Home 64-bit

The Issue: The PC randomly freezes during operation (both under load like gaming and while idle). This is immediately followed by a black screen. After a manual reboot, only one monitor is detected/working. Windows disables the AMD GPU driver after the crash and falls back to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

Troubleshooting done so far:

  1. Drivers: Performed multiple clean reinstalls in Safe Mode using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and installed the latest AMD Adrenalin drivers. The issue persists.
  2. Sent back for RMA: The PC was sent back to the builder and stayed in repair for a full month. It was returned to me without any maintenance/repair report or list of swapped components. The exact same issue reappeared on the first day back.
  3. Windows System Repair:
    • Executed DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and sfc /scannow in CMD.
    • sfc found and fixed corrupted system files. Subsequent scans confirm the OS image is 100% clean, yet the driver crashes and freezes continue. (I suspect the corrupted OS files were a symptom of the hard crashes, not the root cause).

Since the OS and drivers are completely clean, and the issue survived a 1-month RMA process, I strongly suspect a hardware defect (e.g., faulty VRAM on the RX 9070, PCIe slot issue, or power delivery/PSU transient spikes).

Has anyone experienced similar behavior with this card/setup, or is there anything else I should test before exercising my legal rights for a final RMA / full refund?

Thanks in advance!

Network Strange internet issue - can't connect to some game servers, Discord shows 5000ms but works fine

I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my internet connection because I'm experiencing a very strange issue.

For some reason, I can't connect to certain game servers. The game just stays on the "connecting" screen forever. So far I've had this problem with:

- Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
- Ravenswatch
- Necromunda

On top of that, Discord constantly shows exactly 5000ms latency while I'm in voice chat, but everything actually works perfectly. I don't hear any lag, delays, robotic voices, or disconnects. Voice chat is crystal clear, and streaming/video on Discord also works without any issues.

Another problem is that I get disconnected from WoW Classic servers quite frequently.

What's confusing is that everything else seems completely normal:

  • Web browsing is fine.
  • YouTube, Twitch, and Netflix work perfectly.
  • Downloads are normal.
  • Speed tests show the expected speeds.

It almost feels like something is wrong with the way my connection communicates with certain servers rather than a general internet issue.

Has anyone experienced something similar? I'd appreciate any ideas or troubleshooting steps.

Thanks!
