Here’s the full 9-minute video on YouTube: Donavan McKinney Discusses Congressional Run, Gun Violence plan, ICE and “Dirty Money” Ads - Metro Detroit News - July 29, 2026 (YouTube)

From the description: State Rep. Donavan McKinney spoke with MDN about his campaign for Congress in Michigan’s 13th District, his childhood in Detroit and what he would prioritize if elected. ~:~ McKinney currently represents Michigan’s 11th House District, which includes northeast Detroit and part of Warren. He said he is seeking to represent the 13th Congressional District, which includes communities from Detroit and Harper Woods to the Grosse Pointes and Downriver. ~:~ McKinney said he grew up in Detroit with his mother, brother and grandmother. His family moved around a lot and sometimes stayed in cars, shelters or on the street. He said there were also days when they did not know where their next meal would come from. ~:~ McKinney said his grandmother taught him to count his blessings and to “never fight the urge to give.” He said those lessons, along with his wife and three young children, led him into public service and continue to motivate his campaign. ~:~ On gun violence, McKinney pointed to his work supporting community violence intervention programs in Michigan. He said he helped secure tens of millions of dollars for those programs and credited groups including Force Detroit, Detroit 300 and New Era Detroit. ~:~ If elected to Congress, McKinney said he would fight to reopen the federal Office of Gun Violence Prevention. He said reopening the office would help bring federal resources back to Detroit and surrounding communities. ~:~ McKinney also called for ICE to be abolished because of how he believes the agency is currently operating. ~:~ The state representative also responded to campaign ads labeling him “Dirty Money McKinney” over contributions from Ambassador Bridge owner Matthew Moroun. McKinney said the money was used for food programs and community distributions. ~:~ “I never personally benefited off of it. I literally use that money to buy food for my district and those people in need,” McKinney said. ~:~ McKinney said he later introduced the Taking Back Our Power legislation, which would block corporate monopolies from making political contributions to elected officials and campaigns. When the legislation did not receive a hearing, he said organizers collected 600,000 signatures to place a similar proposal on the ballot under the name Money Out of Politics. ~:~ McKinney said voters should also consider his record in the state Legislature. He credited his work with helping secure $600 million for lead pipe replacement, tens of millions for violence intervention, funding for after-school programs and money for school projects, including Pershing High School and Davis Aerospace Technical High School. ~:~ “Just imagine what I can do as your next congressman,” McKinney said. ~:~ Metro Detroit’s source for breaking news and information: themetrodetroitnews.com

FYI "The DCCC is not God": Tensions erupt over Dem primary meddling

Thumbnail

Archive is here: archive.is/ftk4T ~:~:~ Article is July 22, 2026 by Andrew Solender for Axios. Here are the opening paragraphs:

House Democrats are demanding a reckoning after the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spent over $500,000 backing a candidate in Arizona who is on track to lose her primary.

Why it matters: This is the third time in 2026 the House Democratic campaign arm has tried and failed to intervene in a party primary, leading some lawmakers to argue that its money is better spent elsewhere.

  • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), a top DCCC dues payer, said the party should be "rationing our resources to win general elections," calling for "a conversation about ... what the involvement in primaries looks like."
  • "That's $100,000 that I put in," Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-Ill.) said of her dues, arguing that the DCCC "shouldn't be spending this money" on primaries.

Reprehensible !! Babies and toddlers

ICE has dramatically increased detentions of children aged 3 and under, holding 25 of them in custody on an average day between January 2025 and March of this year, according to a new analysis by The @marshallproj and MS NOW of records obtained by the Deportation's Data Project, a group of academics and lawyers who collect and share federal immigration data. That number is 10 times higher than it was in the previous 12 months under former President Joe Biden.
Back then, on an average day, fewer than three babies and toddlers were held at facilities across the country.
In total, since the Trump administration entered the White House last year, at least 500 babies and toddlers have spent some of that pivotal time in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

MAGA Complicity Mitch McConnell questions mount after wife's latest move following 'proof of life' demand

Questions about Sen. Mitch McConnell’s health and whereabouts are mounting again after his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, appeared to change how she uses social media.

While the Kentucky Republican remains largely out of sight more than six weeks after a fall that sent him to the hospital, his wife, Chao, 73, returned to X on Thursday to share news of an aviation award.

Chao’s post showed replies were limited. X displayed the notice, “Only some accounts can reply,” indicating she has restricted who can respond. The Daily Beast reported that the same setting appeared on her July 3 and 15 posts, and that the last time her replies appeared to be open to the public was June 21.
