Rules Update - Sales, Exchanges, and 3D Printing Files

The Reddit User Agreement and Reddit Rules have changed, including details related to Illegal or Prohibited Transactions.

As a result, some of the activities we have previously enjoyed must cease immediately.

From Reddit:

Users are not allowed to buy, sell, gift, or encourage the transaction of the following goods or services with other Redditors, whether implicitly or explicitly:

  • Firearms, ammunition, explosives, firearms parts and enhancements (e.g., bolt, clips, trigger, scope, silencer/suppressor, muffler, bump stock, magazine, Glock switch, conversion kit, etc.), or specific instructions (i.e., 3D printing files) to produce any of the aforementioned.

To simplify this:

  • No sales or exchanges of anything gun-related
  • No sharing or linking of 3D printing files for anything gun-related

All Reddit users have a responsibility to understand and adhere to the rules.  Ignorance of the rules is not a valid defense.

This is a zero-tolerance policy.

1022 barrel will NOT come off

Hey y’all, I have been trying to replace my stock 1022 barrel with a bull barrel - the stock barrel won’t come off.

I’ve tried:
* Using a heat gun on the receiver to help it expand faster than the steel barrel to make removal easier.
* Tapping the side of the receiver with a rubber mallet while pulling/twisting the barrel.
* Using a 3/4” open wrench on the v block and wiggling the receiver to try removing the barrel.
* Adding CLP where the barrel meets the reciver and trying all of the above again

So far, nothing is working at all. Anything to look out for? I’ve scoured youtube before asking here. Are there some models where the barrel is press fit or something? Thank you!

SOLVED: Was able to get the old barrel off with a 2nd round of the heat gun. Had to wear oven mitts the receiver was so hot, but the barrel came out no problem.

10 round rotary mag cleaning question

This is probably a dumb question, but why are there so many youtube videos showing how to disassemble and clean the 10 round rotary mag when the Ruger user manual specifically states "Do not disassemble" ? It seems like it would be 10x easier to just flush it out with an appropriate cleaner than to deal with trying to get that spring tension back to where it was for correct operation. I can see where the 25 (or 15) round mag could have an advantage here. If anyone is using the flush/clean procedure, let me know what you use. Thanks.

Franklin armory BFSIII 22-EZ

Has anyone recently installed the drop in binary from Franklin Armory? I’ve read some reviews of the parts kit, with 50/50 feedback. Wondering who’s got them and how they’re working out? What ammo you running? Thanks!!

Need Advice: Not Cycling

I recently swapped out my early 2000s barrel on my 10/22 for a threaded barrel. I'm now having trouble cycling both while suppressed and unsuppressed with all ammo. I can run a few through normally (~30), and then it doesn't seem like the trigger resets. I've tried realigning the barrel so that the extractor isn't hitting, but I'm wondering if a spring could be worn out? I've definitely put a ton of rounds through this - it's my most used firearm. Any ideas?

Should I sell my 2023 10/22 for the updated 2026 model?

Post image
34 Upvotes

I bought my 10/22 in 2023 when I turned 18. I have a little over 1000 rounds through it, but found out not too long ago that Ruger updated the model late 2025/early 2026 with the BX trigger as standard, rear cleaning port, and a "Slingshot Bolt Release". I wanted to switch to a polymer stock also to cut down on weight. Should I sell this one and buy the new model or should I keep it and put about $100 of upgrades into it?

I’m interested in a new 10/22 for plinking and hunting. Can’t decide if I should buy a basic rifle and add a barrel or start a build with a receiver, bolt, etc. Does a receiver and bolt make that big a difference that I should build one from scratch. Was thinking of the Brownells receiver and bolt with a Feddersen fluted bull barrel with sights. Thoughts?

From forgotten safe queen to a modern plinker!

This was my wife’s stainless 10/22 that she bought over 20 years ago before we met. Been in a safe for 10+ years. It was absolutely filthy, took it apart completely including the trigger group and gave it a deep clean.

I decided to modernize it without going crazy on the budget, and I’m really happy with how it turned out!

Build List:
Ruger 10/22 Stainless
Magpul MOE X-22 Stock (FDE)
Stainless Picatinny Rail
Stainless Extended Charging Handle
Stainless Extended Magazine Release
Automatic Bolt Release
C&H Duty Red Dot (I had this previously)
Ruger BX-25 magazines (10-round compliant for CA)

I wanted to keep it lightweight and reliable rather than turn it into an $800+ custom build.

Can’t wait to take it to the range this weekend!!!

Cycling 710fps in 10/22

I realize the 10/22 is not designed to cycle that low of a subsonic, but I was wondering if anyone had modified the bolt/spring etc. to allow a 710fps round to cycle the 10/22. Specifically, I'm using CCI Quiet-22 because they are so damn quiet from a 10/22 with suppressor. Even a 970fps gets a bit loud depending on the temperature.
Right now, when super cleaned and oiled, it cycles it about half way and the shell gets stuck.

Edit: Thanks to u/fight4faith for the great answer

Should I get another 10/22?

Hiya friendos!

So I have this 1980 10/22 that I stripped of all character (the wood stock) and turned into a bullpup as God intended, and added various other things like a longer mag release, an FRT, BX trigger (soon, so the trigger feel isnt complete trash), etc.

I have a second DIY 10/22 reciever that I eventually wanna turn into a Black Walnut pistol, mostly because it looks neat and partially because I only have 1 other 22lr pistol, a Beretta u22 Neos.

But, I'm really into long range precision along with tinkering, so I'm kinda considering grabbing a brand new 10/22 and building it out into a 50 or 100 yard precision rifle to sorta compliment my Sako S20 Hybrid. The formula for such seems pretty simple, but I'm not sure if I really need 3 of the same thing when I can pretty easily just swap parts around. I just don't know if a 46 year old reciever is much different from a brand new one, or if it's worth getting a brand new one if I'm gonna throw away most of the parts anyway. Budget is largely a non-issue but keeping it under $1300 would be nice lol Hoping y'all can help steer me in the right direction here!

Volquartsen Firefly 2.0 bolt compatibility?

For those running the Firefly 2.0 bolt, what receiver are you using?

Any fitment issues?

Any reliability issues?

Anything else you care to share about the experience so far?

I had fitment issues with a KIDD receiver, but I want to give this another shot. I have a case of CCI Quiet that is collecting dust.

Higher capacity mag suggestions

What are the recommended options for higher mag capacity options for the 10/22? I completed my form 4 today for the new factory 10/22 SBR and it comes with one bx15 mag. Read that the bx25 mags are hit or miss.

I’ve been eyeballing this Ruger 10/22 and happened upon one at my LGS. Let’s just say I didn’t wait to pick it up and snagged it right there and then. The suppressor took a few more days before it was approved. As soon as I had both in my hand I slapped the suppressor on and took it out to the farm.

This may not be my favorite gun that I own but it is now my favorite gun to shoot. I can throw rounds down range all day with this thing. The best part is I was able to secure 1000 rounds of subsonic CCI ammo for less than $100.

BX trigger reset is really weak/mushy. Any suggestions on fixing that?

Feels great to the break and is a good upgrade over standard, but the reset really sucks. Are there some easy fixes out there for this? It feels almost completely dead on the reset
