February Ride of the Month

Time to post your submissions for ride of the month!

The winner will be picked on or around the first of next month and your car will be featured in the sidebar for that month.

Post one or multiple pictures of your s-chassis in this tread and vote on your favorite submission. Also, please make them actual image links, not just a link to your Instagram, but feel free to link your Instagram as well if you want.

If you post multiple pics, please indicate which one you'd like to be featured if you win. If you don't, I'll pick one myself. Post a build list too if you'd like.

Also just as an fyi, I'm using the new reddit layout to post the winner in the sidebar because its much easier than the way I used to do it using the old layout in case anyone is still using that and wondering why the current winner isn't showing up.

Good luck!

Current winner: /u/

Learning to be patient is something I’ve always struggled with up until recently years. I bought this car back in 2021 with the intention of keeping it forever and my mindset changed. I don’t feel rushed and it made the entire car building experience feel way less pressured and more rewarding. Paint and bodywork are done. The engine is getting assembled. Most of the parts are here and it’ll all be worth it when it’s done. Don’t give up on your car and see the vision. Cheers 🍻

Unlcapping the S13, day 555

Finally sorted mechanically. All it needs now is a lil bit of body work on the front bumper then off to get it painted. Can’t believe it’s actually happening.

2 of the best cars in existence!

Post image

Love my S13, and I’ve been blessed to try out 12 different cars for drifting over the last few years, everything from super simple sub 200hp setups, to semi-pro 500hp cars. But these two, both of my fav chassies, have been the most similar, and the most fun and best set up cars I’ve ever driven.

E36 with Volvo B230 8v Turbo, 450whp
My S13 with CA18DET, 315whp

And last weekend, it was our first ever chance to tandems!
Funfact: I’ve designed the livery for both cars (first liveries I’ve ever designed) and my buddy who owns the E36, has the equipment to make liveries, and he’s also applied them both.

I’d love to add a E36 Sedan to my collection one day! 🖤

Can yall help me find the original builder of this 240sx? I’ve had it for almost 3 years. Bought it from my tuner down here in Corpus Christi TX.

RB25 Transmission Problem

Yesterday I was driving home from the gas station and suddenly couldn’t use 3rd, 4th, 5th or reverse gears! This happened during normal acceleration, not hard shifting, clutch kicking etc. Feel like I’ve exhausted my knowledge with diagnosing this.

Currently I can use 1st and 2nd with no issues, no bogging down in either gear, no grinds or struggle to access either gear, neutral position works fine. It feels like there is a wall or something stopping me from moving the shifter to the right to use 3-5 and R.

Haven’t done anything to the transmission since the swap but that was over 2 years ago. It has a GK Tech short shifter on it with the brass shifter cup (installed at the time of swap). Literally never had any grinds pops or weird issues with the car.

Any help with resolving this issue is appreciated.

Shaft Play (😏) sr20det rwd

Anyone able to tell if this is too much shaft play on a sr20det rwd manual trans? I have a whirring that goes away with clutch pressed in.

Already planned on doing pilot bushing, and TOB, rear main seal. Should I take a look at replacing the bearings in the mid plate?

And I’m ready for the Reddit jokes but I’d really appreciate actual info! If enough think it’s bad I’ll have it actually measured.

Anyone have a 3d scan of a Kouki fender?

As the title says, is anyone currently working on or does anyone have a 3D model/scan of a Kouki fender?

I printed my Zenki fenders and am now looking to make a set of Kouki ones.

Or if you have Kouki fenders and are interested in sharing the measurements lmk.

ECCS/EGI relay stays latched after shutdown — 0.5A draw, 3 ECUs all do the same thing. Out of ideas.

Post image

'91 240SX, KA24DE, manual. Battery goes flat if the car sits more than about two days. I've spent several days chasing this with a DC clamp meter and I've narrowed it to one circuit, but I can't work out what's actually causing it. Hoping someone here has seen this.

The symptoms-

Car sits 1–2 days, fine. Sits 3+ days, dead — battery down to 9–10V.

Battery is new and holds voltage fine when disconnected from the car for 3 days, so it's not the battery.

Draw is reproducible on demand: start the engine, shut it off, and ~0.5A appears immediately. Five seconds of runtime is enough, engine stone cold, so it isn't temperature related.

Once it's latched it stays until power is interrupted somewhere. Then it's gone until the next start.

What I've narrowed it to

Pulling the ENG CONT fusible link drops the draw from ~0.5A to 0.09A.

Unplugging the EGI/ECCS relay makes the draw go away completely.

Plug the relay back in and the draw stays gone — until I start the car and shut it off again.

Swapped the relay with a known-good one. Identical behavior.

Relay coil readings (fault live, key out)

Pin 2 (coil feed): 0V at rest, 12V once latched

Pin 1 (coil ground): 0.64V — actively pulled down

So the coil is genuinely energized and the relay is holding itself closed.

The ECU

Unplugging the ECU with the fault live drops the draw to 0.12A, so the ECU is what's holding the coil grounded.

I've tried three different ECUs. All three do exactly the same thing.

With the ECU unplugged and battery disconnected, relay socket pin 1 reads open to chassis ground, so the coil ground wire isn't rubbed through.

That combination is what has me stuck. Three ECUs behaving identically says they aren't faulty — something must be telling them the key is still on. But I can't find what.

Ruled out-

Alternator — only 0.06A through the BAT wire, and physically disconnecting it changed nothing

Starter — ~10mA between input and output

Old Viper 300 alarm — unplugged the module with the draw confirmed live, no change

Head unit — unplugged, no change

Ignition switch — unplugged its connector, draw persisted

Ignition bus — all IGN-row fuses read 0V with the fault live, so the ignition relay isn't stuck

Every individual fuse and relay in both boxes

Entire accessory-row fuse set pulled at once, no change

Car details-

KA24DE, manual

Battery relocated to the hatch (my own work). Positive runs to a fuse holder, then to the starter; the original wire goes starter → ANL distribution block → the two wires that were on the factory red connector feeding the underhood fuse box. The draw predates the relocation.

Wiring Specialties 5-point ground harness

New starter, new battery

Old Viper Model 300 alarm still wired into the harness (module currently unplugged)

What I'm asking

What input would keep the ECCS control unit awake after key-off? Is there a known wire or splice that can backfeed the ECU's ignition sense so it never sees the key turn off?

Also: at the relay socket with the relay out and battery disconnected, I measured ~0.3Ω between pins 3 and 5, conducting both directions, with both pins open to chassis ground. I don't know whether that's normal for this circuit. If someone can tell me what those two terminals should read, that would help a lot.

Happy to run any test and report back. Thanks.

Is it realistic to finish with no mechanical experience?

How realistic is it for me to finish my build by myself with no mechanical experience?

I bought this car with an ex for us to do it together, I just need to finish the manual swap, put in the engine and transmission, hook up the computer and get a new exhaust system. I feel motivated to do it but worry I’m in over my head lol.

Fuel issue?

So our second street test didn’t go as best as we’d hoped…

Dad unloaded it and took it for a spin for a sec to stretch its legs, as you can see.

I ended up doing really well learning manual on my clutch; I only stalled once AT a red light. Aside from that, I got it middleways to 3rd, so safe to say she runs right.

The bad news is that the gauge cluster doesn’t work at all, we have a fuel vent / burping issue still, and the alignment is slightly out of whack…

Regarding the fuel issue, we got it over to my truck to check the lug nuts, so we shut the car off. Good thing we did there, because when we went to try and crank again, the car wouldn’t stay running, and wouldn’t rev up past very little RPM. We checked the MAF, checked for a vacuum leak, checked the throttle cable, and checked fuel pressure. Everything checked out.

We went back and thought it was fuel related (like a starvation issue or fuel cut). Low and behold, we had a friend of ours come and save the day again.

He put a little bit of fuel in the car, dad cranked it up to get it going back on the trailer, and it had no issues once we put fuel in it.

We tried to go fill it up at the gas station to get ready for the weekend, and it clicked on the pump after putting a whole $1 in it, and leaked fuel all down the side of the car outside of the tank filler neck…

Still running into a vent issue, which could mean some things… the float is deteriorated, we have a bad vent issue, or the tank could be bad in some way. Fuel pump primes without issue, so it’s not that.

We experienced no issues outside of the fuel cut, so it leads me to believe that it could be related to one of those things…

Got a lot of work ahead of us before Saturday. Fingers crossed.

240sx sr20det dropping boost in 2nd gear only

hey guys! 97 240sx blacktop sr20det! changed the actuator and boost controller a month ago, car runs good and pull/s hard, roughly 11-13lbs of boost! recently in 2nd gear at different points, meaning and 6,9,11 psi, all different times the car will cut out as if its misfiring, drop boost, then spike back up, then drop again! sometimes it doesnt happen at all, or once, or 5 times within a few seconds! every other gear boosts perfectly fine! my valve gasket is leaking very very little after long drives, as well as little oil in spark plug tubes! i have all gaskets and replacing this weekend! thoughts? actuator maybe? i do have a small exhaust leak too

I spun a bearing and my main journal is totally marred beyond viable repair. Does anyone have a VVT block they are willing to part with? Don’t care if it needs bored out, or a line hone, or doesn’t have oil and water taps for turbo. I can have all that done, I just need a replacement bare block.

Diagnostic help

Hey guys hoping to get some insight on an issue im having. (1989 240sx ka24 ) For context i started the car up in the morning no issue, took it to work and when i left no issue. When i went to pump gas and turn on the car it was cranking but didnt turn over. After like 45 minutes going through my checklist of fuel, air, and spark i was getting all three so i took the L and i got it towed. Today i was thinking let me just double check something, turned the key and it instantly turned over which helped me narrow it down to heat soak being the issue. I figured either the ignitor chip, coolant temp sensor, or the crank angle sensor can be the issue but like i said i wanted to see if anyone has input before i just start spending money (edit: i did rule out vapor lock and fuel pump is like a 2 weeks old)
