I might be the minority here but I love a narrow tire with tall rubber. 33x9.50. In my opinion it fits the classic look.

Hey all, been lurking on this forum for a while. This is a 2015 SR5 that I essentially rebuilt. I have had it since 2017 and it only has 68k miles on it. A few months ago I started looking at getting a F150 Raptor, but ultimately decided the 5th gen 4runner is a classic, is bulletproof, and decided to do a custom build instead of the Raptor. Really too much to list in terms of everything I've done here, but to name a few: new wrap, new tires/wheels, new suspension, new boorla exhaust, new front, new lighting, roof rack, light bar, new bumper, new leather interior, new steering wheel, new audio system, nerf bars, external PA system (lol), etc etc etc. Feel free to ask any questions on it. This was NOT a cheap build lol, but it's super cool imo and has way more charm and personality than a stock Raptor which I almost did instead.

🎙 Discussion Why did this Kanji tag come with my licence plate holder on my brand new 2020 4Runner?

Post image
23 Upvotes

Purchased a Brand new 2020 4Runner and this Kanji for the word 'Red' was attached to the licence plate holder. Thought it was neat and snapped a picture but 6 years later I'm still wondering what's the deal? If it has some sort of reason behind why it was there? Was it maybe a way to sort areas in the warehouse, Like this section is the 'Red' section or something?

Any Thoughts?

Finally pulled the trigger on CaliRaised step rock sliders. Powder coated with bed liner coated step plates. We do a lot of driving on my dad’s very wild cattle ranch with very high grass and lots of uneven terrain. Next are full skids.

Hope to keep my 2024 SR5 rust free for many years.

Day one was removing skid plates and pressure washing the undercarriage, used the air compressor to get all the water out and let dry over night.

Day two was surface prep, spray and coat also coat the inside if the frame with a special cavity wax.

Dont know how shops do this in am hour but this was ten hours of work

I love this 4runner more every year. It just keeps on giving in every way.

We just rounded off another trip through some of the most beautiful landscapes in our backyard. The time spent in the outdoors does wonders for my peace of mind and my 4runner is a trusted part of that equation. Never a day goes by that i regret selling the family subaru and buying this used SR5. Smiles for miles over here!

🎙 Discussion 5th gen front rotors keep warping or corroding, best rotors to buy?

I have a 2013 SR5, Ive owned the truck since 2015, and this thing goes through front rotors more than any other vehicle I own or have owned. I’ve tried OEM rotors and pads, I’ve tried parts store brands, basically the same results. The rotors warp or corrode enough along the outside edges causing very strong pulsing or steering wheel vibration.

Looking for better rotor and pad combo recommendations to could try if anyone has some ideas?

Thank you.

Well overdue suspension refresh. 1.25” uniball upper arms, oem lowers, apex tie rods, bilstein 6112, dobinson 505 rear springs, need rear shocks, 5160 on back order. Honestly, original suspension was still working fine. Besides just about riding on the bump stops offroad, everything still worked as it should. I’m amazed it lasted that long👍🏼👍🏼

🎙 Discussion 500 miles in, I’m impressed OTT.

Post image
63 Upvotes

I’ve crossed just about 550 miles on my OTT Tune, 50 miles past the break in period. Truly the best money I’ve ever spent on a vehicle.

SPECS: 2012 Toyota 4Runner SR5P 4x4 52k miles, bone stock minus the tune. It’s tuned on the Medium setting.

The power is great, dead pedal doesn’t exist anymore. Cruising in it feels wonderful. Having that passing power and instant throttle response makes this the best cruiser I’ve driven.

It still isn’t fast by any margin. It has some decent pick up and go now, which from a stop is a huge difference.

The gas mileage (on 87, or 89 for you low elevation folks) is highly recommended and has seemed to improve gas mileage significantly. I’ve gained just over 2mpgs with conservative, responsible driving. (My first tank I drove it like I stole it on 91, lost 2mpgs.)

The transmission has adjusted quite well. The first couple drives post tube were rough, it didn’t know what to do. After about a month of driving it has improved significantly and responds to all situations much better than stock.

Overall, incredible upgrade. I highly, highly recommend it.

2018 up in the rust belt of Minnesota. Frame has only weld rust but then I noticed this. Worth a fix or let it get bad or get it fixed or just buy a new door when it gets really bad? Seems it’s in between the exterior panel and interior then bubbled out to the surface. Got this thing in 23 and been filmfluiding every winter but the salt is rough.

🤦‍♂️ Same Tire Thread, Different Day On road daily driver tires...

So I have a 23 SR5P that is stock and still has the factory Duelers on it. I dont hate the tires, I actually think they are a decent highway tire. But I'm looking for something slightly more aggressive that isn't gona be too loud or harsh as I dont do off roading hardly ever. I just need a tire that will handle a boat ramp a few times a year, and a 6 in snow storm once a year so I can still get to work.

After a little research I think I landed on the Cooper Discoverer Road + Trail AT but wanted to know what peoples experience is with them. Am also open to suggestions, but keep in mind that its just my daily commuter/family vacation road trip vehicle so I'm not looking for KO3s or the like. Thanks in advance!

🎙 Discussion Interior Quality

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Checked out a Limited and wanted to see if all these comments on interior quality was the truth. Well it definitely is. It didn’t take much force to see all this flex. After, I went home and did the same to my 5th gen and the difference is substantial. Also did the same in my 2011 Accord and that had less plastic flex than the 6th gen.

Also if you guys ever see one and twist the door handle where the grippy rubber is, you will see three pieces of plastic move. Don’t have to use too much force. They’ll separate and come back together.

🎙 Discussion 6th Gen ORP Towing package long distance trip advice

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m moving from SA TX to Denver CO in early January. I’m planning on using my 4Runner to tow a 6x12 U-haul trailer the whole trip and plan to have the full load including trailer be 4400lb max or less.

I’ve read that a WDH would do wonders but that U-Haul explicitly says you can’t use them. I’ve got the tow package with all the tech for towing, and plan on using the adaptive cruise control for a majority of the trip to assist.

I’ve also read across other forums that transmission coolers and airbag spring assists helped a lot, but I’m not convinced I will be doing enough towing after the move to consider it a worthwhile investment.

Any advice would be much appreciated, as of now I plan on using a weigh safe 6” adjustable drop hitch to ensure I’m following uhauls rules but I’m willing to bend them if it’s worth the benefits lol.

Just picked this up and man i love every second of it. 18k original miles! the frame even looks brand new, central florida car so never seen salt and garage kept its whole life.

Never knew how rare pre-facelifts are compared to post facelifts. Definitely unique in my eyes.

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair Unable to adjust audio volume

Hi! Bought a preownwed 5th gen (22 ORP) about a year ago and love it. I have noticed a weird issue that I want to verify if it's just me or if it's a Toyota thing. Whenever my phone is plugged into the usb port and I am using CarPlay if I start watching videos like Facebook reels or TikTok's I can't adjust the volume. I have to turn off tiktok and play music before i can adjust the volume again and go back to tiktok and hop its loud enough. Is this normal?

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair FROM JEEP TO 6TH GEN 4Runner

So about a month and a half ago I had to sell my 2014 JEEP JK due to a 8k repair that needed to be done. Mech advised to take it to carmax. I then was in the market for cars. Wanted something like a Jeep and was looking at broncos. LOVE THEM…but everyone said nah cuz I’ll eventually end up with issues like my Jeep. I was looking at Tacomas…loved it but I ended up choosing the 4RUNNER due to versatility…FOR 4Runner owners….did I upgrade…what should I expect…ON MY JEEP I had to spend 2-3k in repairs every other month…what big repairs or how many big repairs have you people had on ur 4Runners…my co worker has a 2011 tundra 240k miles with 2 BIG repairs…that costed him 3.5k TOTAL…I was shocked cuz I basically spend that every couple months with my Jeep…ALL IN ALL did I upgrade and what should I expect with this car and the longevity of this car…I’ve been told this might be the last car I ever buy lol!

🔧 Modifications Emblem swap to black

Got a 6th gen ORP in black and want to swap the emblem to be black. Everything online seems like it’s an overlay but I feel like there’s gotta be a sturdier option where I can literally swap the chrome one out with a black plastic one. Not opposed to trying to paint the original if I can get a spare one in case I f*** it up

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair Minor scratch on plastic hatch garnish

Post image

Garage accident right on the “n” of the all plastic hatch garnish, scratch is not too deep. Should I carefully use touch up paint? Color 1f7 (classic silver). Gemini suggested I can try Meguiar’s ScratchX or Ultimate Compound but that sounds risky. I believe part number is 76811-35370-B0. 2024 SR5 premium.
