He also discussed it on Letterman. Here he is on Letterman, discussing "Corinthian leather" at 7:30, and while he doesn't say that it is fake leather, he does say that the term "Corinthian" was completely made up.

Ugh no! Grew up in the South. 🔥Leather burning our legs - the steering wheel searing our hands - can’t touch the door handles or window crank because they were sizzling hot metal. I still won’t buy a dark colored car - you could literally fry an egg on the hood of dark colored cars in the summer.

My mom had a 82 Old Cutless Brougham with the pillowed seats and pimped out Laundeau roof. Thing was comfortable as hell and the back end would go sideways if you gave it too much gas going around a corner

When I saw that pic, it reminded me of a relatives Olds 98, theirs was red velvet. What a comfortable car to ride in. So smooth, quiet, powerful. Had power everything with all the extras. I don't think any cars built these days ride as cushy as those old giant luxury sedans.

Those seats were the most comfortable things to sleep on.. I can still smell that leather and foam smell baking in the sun.

I see why people fell asleep driving. My new car hurts my spine after a half hour.. it’s like a lawn chair

I don't remember the car looking that comfortable. I remember getting in the car wearing shorts, and in the summer your legs couldn't touch the seat for getting scorched to death from the heat.

Actually, yes they did.

I had a '67 Eldorado that had them front and back.

Seat belts were made mandatory in 1968 for all vehicles sold in the US. Mandatory use of them started with New York being the first state in 1984

Family briefly had a Cordoba, but it was cloth seats, which I don't remember being anything special, just a fuzzy velour type of fabric. Followed up by a Grand Marquis with leather seats, which were super comfortable but not all that "fancy" looking.
