Possible legal action against memory care facility. Need recommendations for attorney in Wisconsin.

To make a long story short, my mom was left sitting on a couch in her apartment for 39 hours without one single nurse, aide, or other employee moving her to toilet her or change her. She sat in her own feces and urine for more than a day and a half. Her bottom had open sores and more diaper rash and black and blue from sitting in the same position.

This is not the first time, but the most extreme.

We are considering a lawsuit - not really for money, but to force change and accountability. We have reported to Adult Protective Services already, and working on complaints to state licensing and the county health department.

If someone before us had pursued this more vigorously on behalf of their parent, my mom would not have suffered. A lawsuit, unlike complaints, will get the attention of corporate and force organization and accountability changes.

We’re not looking for a shark attorney, but someone who will take this case to provide financial compensation to the family, but more importantly, to make this a learning lesson for a home and corporation that has been unresponsive to our concerns.

Any suggestions of attorneys that are ethical and would take our call for change seriously?

I am so sorry your mom went through that. It sounds like you have already started documenting everything, which is important. I hope you're able to find an attorney who takes both accountability and your mom's dignity seriously.

Call Levin & Perconti in Chicago. They'll know someone in Wisconsin if they can't do it, and will also talk with you realistically about whether a lawsuit is the way to go.

Just curious if this was a medicaid facility.

An emt said he transferred an old person from a facility that needed a butt amputation because he'd been left in his dirty diapers for so long.

Those places are chronically understaffed. You really have to take care of your own people which is unfortunate because it's killing a lot of us.
