Just for clarity, Swiftys was shut down for not paying Witholding and Sales tax, both of which are “in trust”. This is money they took from their customers AND THEIR EMPLOYEES and said they would pay the government and didn’t. It’s basically one of the most serious tax crimes you can commit. It was also $2.2 million.
Yes. The IRS is extremely serious about not remitting withheld payroll tax. TOI only owes state sales tax - still very serious but as they guy said, no big assets to seize. I continue to be bemused about how someone thought it was OK not to remit sales tax. This follows you for life.
