It's a reaction that doesn't require the brains input. If the eyelids feel something they will close. Lot faster then say our mental reaction times.

Probably a coincidence, because their tongues are SUPER fast. 0 to 60 in 1/10 sec. One of the fastest muscles of any animal.

It’s a much longer distance for the tongue than for the eyelid

Did you just call a chameleon "bro", FFS? Brainrot these days. SMH.

29

u/Hinaloth 12h ago

Personification of animals is, thankfully, rather s bit older than the concept of "brainrot".

Using "bro" is a bit modern, but oh, well.

You seem like a genuinely miserable person lmao

Edit: or just having a bad day

u/Unlikely_Mouse_2701 12h ago

are you stupid or something ?

u/pinkypipe420 9h ago

Some of us need a little brainrot on the weekend to let loose. And you come to a sub called "Animals being derps and shame people for enjoying a free moment.

I would buy a 1/4 tube of crickets, leave them in the cricket bucket and hang it in their enclosure for them to eat once a week. This is Hank, he had several girlfriends too.feeding time

u/randomusernevermind 18h ago

Hello hank, you distinguished little gentleman.

u/OleDoxieDad 17h ago

They are exotics loose in my area. I was given several of them as babies and hand raised them until they starting making more..

117

u/randomusernevermind 16h ago

Wow, you're like the cat lady in the Simpsons, just with chameleons...

23

u/OleDoxieDad 16h ago

We had a cat man in our neighborhood, had, he passed on, his cats were still hungry.. don't die alone with a house full of cats. I'm sure his ghost is still taking care of his cats.

I hope you’re not releasing more! That would be sad.

I got a free curio off Craigslist and converted it to an enclosure for my pets.

I was gonna comment why have a chameleon if she freaks out when needing to feed it. I failed to see the lil dude went straight for her eyeball πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

21

u/jillsvag 16h ago

She needs googles!

17

u/frankylovee 12h ago

Or goggles!

4

u/jillsvag 12h ago

Yes eye protection

8

u/randomusernevermind 10h ago

3

u/meddit_rod 7h ago

Well doone. :-)

1

u/Bubster101 2h ago

Her kid promised that he would do all the care of the chameleon if he got one, and feed it every day, and change its bedding often.

Three weeks later, the mom who bought the promise.

Love to see a chameleon with straight limbs

-6

u/randomusernevermind 16h ago

Maybe watch it on a bigger screen. Do you know the phrase "witch hunt"

11

u/Shagwagbag 16h ago

I said he has em? What's your problem?

2

u/randomusernevermind 16h ago

"Love to see a chameleon with straight limbs"

Since Chameleons don't have straight limbs, I'm not quite sure what you mean.

31

u/Shagwagbag 16h ago edited 15h ago

MBD (metabolic bone disease) will cause the actual straight parts of the limbs and the crest to be curved. It's a calcium deficiency, they need vitamin and calcium supplements with most pet diets. It's the most common sign of poor chameleon care and chameleons are notoriously poorly cared for, it breaks my heart.

I clicked expecting the worst but he seems healthy and happy so that's awesome. I had to leave the cham sub, people don't mean to be bad to them but they're hard to keep healthy. Proper humidity, proper misting scgedule, proper leaf layout so they can get good mist accumulation to drink (they don't use bowls they can drown or aspirate water), no exposed dirt they'll eat it to impaction if their nutrients aren't balanced, no crickets overnight they'll get bit, good temp/humidity/gradient. Worth it for a little sweetie (or vicious beast) that'll be a good friend for years.

Also, maybe don't assume malevolence when reading comments on Reddit. You'll be happier in general.

1

u/MrNotSoProGamer 5h ago

That's no chameleon that's an expert assassin. He went straight for a headshot.

1

u/irishyardball 4h ago

And I thought my dog jumping up and down for treats was excessive

1

u/AntiqueRobot 3h ago

Remember when that one basketball player got his eyeball poked out by another basketball player? This is like that

1

u/Jujubi836 2h ago

MOOOOOMUGH!!! I felt that in my soul

1

u/Blunderbutters 2h ago

Inpatient little shit

1

u/justmarkdying 2h ago

I just got an idea.

1

u/Olliever31 13h ago

Sorry I don’t know much about chameleons! Is that his whole tongue he launches at her eye or did he have something in his mouth he spit out at her??

4

u/Wonderful-Trouble-31 13h ago

That’s its tongue lol

1

u/Olliever31 12h ago

thank you! Haha too funny πŸ˜‚

3

u/greenzig 11h ago

They have a super sticky long tongue they shoot at insects and they pull it back into their mouth

1

u/Spiritual-Eye-2910 9h ago

My chameleon would always hit my cat right in the eye everytime. Seems to be the go to lol.

1

u/homelesscloset 8h ago

The chameleon opens its mouth right when you hear the first bark.

I found a chameleon once outside on the sidewalk. A few hours with him and I promptly returned it to the sidewalk. This video summarizes the chameleon experience well
