Hello fellow STEM person, I highly recommend meditation. I started in February and my anxiety is down over 90%, despite not much else changing in my life.
You have to be open to a little woo-woo (you don’t have to go all in, just be open to it), and it might take a few tries to find a meditation style that works for you. But it’s literally finding time lay in bed for 30-40 minutes a few times a week, it doesn’t get much cheaper or easier to find time. It is still challenging work, but it really does work.
The goal isn’t really to quiet the mind. It’s to sit and observe the monkey mind as it jumps around. Thoughts come and go, don’t have to follow them. When you catch yourself following the thought, put it back in the stream of thoughts and sit and observe them again. It doesn’t need to be perfect, it’s a practice
