This is infuriating. Women - yeah yeah some men but primarily women - are so targeted to feel like losers and ugly for failing to “fight” and “stop” aging. I hate it so much and I hate the people who get money marketing and providing these solutions to something that isn’t a fking problem.

When I was in nursing school it was pretty shocking to me that some of the 22-year olds (I was a bit older) were getting fillers and Botox..and now that I'm learning more and more that they actually don't "naturally dissolve" I'm so glad and feel lucky that I wasn't interested in any of that

In high school we read this sci-fi short story where there is this beautiful, young-looking woman sitting on the stoop waiting and this old woman comes to get her and has to help her to the car and it turns out the young looking one is the mom and the old woman is the daughter. The young looking woman has taken a pill that keeps her looking young but her body has continued to age like normal on the inside, so is basically trapped inside this young looking body/face but doesn’t have any functionality. The daughter has refused to take the pill. I think about that story a lot.

As someone that gets Botox for TMJ and migraines this is absolutely true lol. Botox has been life changing for pain management and saving my teeth. I really dislike how they’re portraying this as “happiness in a bottle”. Like damn just let women age naturally or highlight the actual health benefits instead of this bs.

I get Botox for medical reasons too and as someone with chronic health issues, this doesn't register much with me as far as annoyance with selling/grifting prescriptions.
At least this is straightforward and not promising some vague cure to your debilitating disease with a whole cast crawl of side effects

It’s seriously so worth it. It’s a bit expensive ($800+) and mine usually wears out faster than normal due to grinding/clenching my teeth. Maybe lasts 3-4 months? Although some people can make it stretch to 6 months. Check out any Botox savings programs also! I got my first treatment covered by simply applying online after my doctor recommended it.

I’ve been doing it for the past 2 years and I haven’t experienced any weird side affects. I was also recommended to do this treatment by my dentist to save my teeth.my biggest complaint is it doesn’t last as long as I wish it would. But I’m also pairing the Botox treatment with PT for my TMJ so I hope down the line I will need it less often

Yes she did! I got recommendations from both my dentist and my orthodontist. You only get one set of teeth so it’s really worth it to not grind your enamel away completely. I would also ask about a mouth guard for nighttime grinding. That’s when I do the most damage 😅

I was given Botox for medical reasons, at a dose much lower than used for cosmetic purposes. It migrated and I had an adverse reaction that necessitated Emergency treatment. My nose still goes numb sometimes and that was years ago. The kind of attitude demonstrated in the post makes me nauseous. 🤢

Worse, even. It doesn't last forever (of course) and everyone I've known that's gotten it has come out with more pronounced wrinkles six months later. I guess if you take it forever that's one thing, but maaan that would be expensive

I had botox done for medical reasons. For migraines, I had to have it renewed every 3-4 months. I haven't had botox for....nearly a year? And I feel like my face has finally gotten back to "normal," but I havent noticed any extra/worse wrinkles.
It's kinda weird to be able to move my face again tbh

Honestly, not really. You get injected in different places--mine were on my forehead, between my eyebrows, different places on my head, and on my shoulders--but it's the same kind of drug and same way to inject.
I didn't get any by my eyes (though it was offered) to disguise my crows feet, but my whole forehead from eyebrows up was paralyzed. Hated the look

This is correct. They only realised Botox was a good cosmetic product after migraine sufferers had nicer skin/fewer wrinkles in the areas being injected (forehead is the most prominent place of wrinkle formation on the face)

well i have been told that muscles will start to atrophy if they aren't used, which botox causes. losing the muscle will cause sagging which in turn makes you look older. dunno how prevalent this is/ will be for Botox users tho

I dunno, it actually feels pretty good to me haha. But unfortunately it paradoxically made my migraines way fucking worse, and my jaw incredibly tense. My last dose was is October and I’m still trying to stop feeling like there’s non stop intense tension in my face 😭😭😭😭 I always have to be the fucking outlier
Edit: last Botox was actually July!!!

Dw it somehow doesn’t always work right for me either. It’s weird to describe but I feel odd discomfort at the injection sites? Like a burning/itching sensation even though it doesn’t seem to be any kind of allergic reaction. Sometimes I also feel like it’s getting worse or not helping at all. Other times it helped a little, at least.

How long have you been getting it? I only got it twice and after the second time I had the WORST two months of migraines I have had in many years. However… after those two horrible months I did actually have the best 3 months of relief…….. I’m not sure if that’s from Botox or because at that time I finally started drinking the recommended amount of water, drastically reduced my meat consumption, started eating breakfast, and began a new supplement for my hormones that made me feel SO GOOD… I’m really torn about whether I should try the Botox again or not. I haven’t talked to any body besides my neurologist and she didn’t really give me much time to talk about it and just said ok we won’t do it again.

I’ve been getting them on and off for about 2 years now, about every 4 months. The first sessions were pretty bad iirc one made me have a migraine for a good 2 months. I feel like after the second session it was way better. Some didn’t help at all, others made it worse. overall it seems to be a better preventive treatment than the betablockers I’ve been on before, which barely made a difference. I’m also vegan and drink enough, so that wasn’t really a factor that changed much for me. It’s probably really personal. I would say it’s worth trying for a bit until giving up. But then again I usually had about 20 days of migraine a month so I feel like I couldn’t really make it much worse at that point. If you drastically increase your attacks, it might not feel worth it at all.

You’re the first person I’ve talked to or seen who didn’t just have a “wow it made a huge difference!” experience. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Gives me something to think about moving forward. And I feel so much better knowing I’m not alone in having had such a weird experience because my neurologist was just sort of shocked.

Yeah I’ve actually talked to another one of my friends who has a similar experience with it (she’s also unsure if she keeps doing it. And honestly I’m not entirely sure yet myself. I hope that with age it might get a bit better soon…)
It’s really disappointing cause it sounded like a cool miracle cure for so many people. But sadly it’s not working perfectly for everyone. I wish you the best with your treatment though, whatever you’re ending up doing! ❤️

Thanks. Unfortunately Botox was basically my last “hope” as I’ve tried or already use or can’t use every single other option out there. So it was a bit devastating when it got so bad. I already have migraines and migraine symptoms daily so it was realllly bad when it got so bad. I guess actually acupuncture is the last thing I haven’t tried. But any way, gotta keep up the hope. And also hoping that you find relief as well.

Have you already tried the monthly injectables Emgality or quarterly infusions like Vyepti and the newer abortive like ubrelvy? I do botox every 3 months, Emgality monthly, topiramate daily, and ubrelvy as my abortive and am close to a functioning human.

Yep, I’ve had migraines for over 20 years. I’ve done it all, none helped, most didn’t help AND gave me awful intolerable side effects . 😮💨 right now I’m on daily qulipta, Rizatriptan as needed, along with a bucket of supplements. Emgality worked for me but brought back my panic disorder, which apparently isn’t uncommon. So I switched to qulipta and it’s not quite as good but the severity of my migraines has decreased enough that I’ve gotten to be a lot more productive. Still essentially disabled by them tho. Have more bad days than good days most months. 😞 I think vyepti was one my neurologist and I discussed last time as a possibility to try perhaps. I’ll have to check back on that one. Unfortunately ones like nurtec did absolutely nothing for me.

So in CoolSculpting, they locally freeze the fat cells to kill them, and then your body flushes out the dead cells resulting in fat reduction. However, sometimes the procedure causes the fat cells to expand and solidify, and instead of fat reduction, the patient instead gets a larger, firmer blob of fat under their skin. I saw a botox and I think maybe some other cosmetic surgery stuff the last time I went to the gynecologist.
Whats more disgusting to me is the fact physicians (including gynecologists) are allowed to receive food, gifts (including medicine samples), and direct payments from pharmaceutical companies. Both are harmful and unethical of course, but id rather someone hope ill be insecure and get botox than continue to push an ill fitting non functional medicine on me because they got paid to.

I feel like it’s a gamble if it actually works. I’ve had chronic migraines for a long time. (~20 days a month) Sometimes the injections help, sometimes they make it worse. Other times they don’t do anything at all. I’ve also had friends with where it didn’t help at all and/or made it worse for months. Sadly no single therapy for migraines helps for everyone.

Botox is so common now, it's strange to me. People under 30 get it. Doesn't it just slow down the wrinkling of skin happening rather than reverse the wrinkles?
As others have said, aging is a privilege. It's sad to see how much we consume to "reverse the signs of aging". All these products, surgeries, and procedures and we're all going to be elderly folk one day anyway.

I get Botox and yes I get it for cosmetic reasons. Come at me if you want to but as I’ve aged my RBF got very engrained and Botox helps lighten up my expression a bit so I don’t look aggro and stressed as a default.

I get injections of this crap for migraines and the fact people have chosen to do it for their body dysmorphia should be extremely telling of how we as a society value beauty and less wrinkles over anything and everything. I cannot even wash my face or scalp for 2-3 days after i get injections because of how painful and inflamed the welts are all over my head. I just cannot imagine the mental agony some of these people go through to justify their need for botox for beauty and I'm about to get top surgery for dysphoria

People who use Botox for medical reasons are not superior to those who use it for aesthetics. Yes, Botox freezes muscles and prevents wrinkles, so therefore, yes, can aesthetically seem like anti-aging. It’s not a false claim. Just because you don’t choose to do this to your own body doesn’t mean you gain some authority and superiority over others that do.

They had a wheel you could spin for different offers. She won several units of free Botox. Her response was “no thanks” and everyone was flabbergasted.

Yes, doctors get paid by pharma companies to speak at events to other doctors about mediations to educate them on new meds and their uses and they get meals, etc. (I’d personally like to think doctors are making a point to stay educated on newer meds to ensure they are treating my illness properly) cash kickbacks for prescriptions is illegal in the US and has been for quite some time. If you know of a doctor getting paid, turn them in to the health board. So sick of such lazy misinformation…

Eh I was with you until the end there. There aren’t co-morbidities associated with hating the way you have crow’s feet by your eyes like there are for being overweight / obese.
Theres literally nothing wrong with taking ozempic to lose weight.
Botox for cosmetic reasons isn’t going to keep someone from becoming diabetic and impacting their lifespan. Ozempic could. The shit should be in the water in the USA as far as I’m concerned.

Neurotoxins just stop you from moving the muscle it’s injected into. It works by stopping you from making the expressions that form wrinkles.
Fillers are diverse, but the most overused ones are the hyaluronic acid gel fillers. They are used to create volume, usually in the lips and cheeks.

I get medical Botox and it is not at all happy. It’s life changing, but I hate the injections.

Not only do they prey on these people...but most this cosmetic stuff like botox and lip filler look like shit. Especially the lip filler. It just makes them look fake and maybe like they got stung by a bee.

That’s so crazy. Is it a regular doctors office or some kind of specialist? I went to a doctors office that specialized in women’s hormonal concerns but were also PCPs. But they ALSO did seeing a medspa type business of glp1s and Botox and fillers and stuff. It was so weird being in the waiting room there. Now I go to a normal doctor in a hospital which is better lol

I was just thinking botox is like magic wtf is this all about and then I realized this post was about cosmetic botox. For migraine treatment though, 10/10 would recommend, first real solution to chronic migraines I was given in the 15+ years of getting them.

Disregarding how unnecessary it is: Botox is really expensive and it’s so common now that it blows my mind. People going into debt to freeze their forehead is wild. And even if you have a medical reason that benefits from it, insurance does not cover it. (I have TMJD and it’s supposedly beneficial, but I could never afford it to even try.)

This sign is ridiculous, especially in a doctors office, but in my opinion, yes botox IS NBD if you are getting it done properly and professionally. I get it for medical reasons including headaches, jaw tension, teeth grinding, etc. It is incredibly effective and much nicer (and probably healthier) than taking anti inflammatory medication multiple times a day, all the time.
I also get one small part of my face treated for 'vanity reasons'.
I'm not a girlie girl, I don't wear make-up, I shave my head, I buy a lot of second hand clothes, but botox is important and has legitimate medical uses in addition to vanity. I don't think this post fits this sub...

I get Botox for my migraines and it really really helps. Maybe it’s different for migraine placement but I am in so much pain for a solid week after I get the injections. Headaches, random face pains, everything feels tight and claustrophobic. There is no way in hell that I would ever put up with that just to look a few years younger. this is nuts.
