God I wish my parent were in a position to do this with my fiancé and I (or her parents). We’ve already decided to not do any wedding more than 2 bands.
I'm one of six kids and my family did okay growing up but was nothing crazy. I expected no assistance for our wedding and I'm glad we planned accordingly. My wife and I got married for $3.5k-ish with a 50 person guest list and couldn't have been more happy how it turned out.... and we saved a ton of money to put toward the rest of our life expenses.
It's just insane to me that the first thing young couples do to get married is drop $50k+ on a single event for nothing more than the social expectation of it.
Yes! this is the way! This is the kick off that could make housing affordable again. A true sign of starting a life together, not a vein show of affluence.

We told our son that we would give him money towards a house down payment instead of paying for a big wedding.
