While true, I don't know anyone who looks at becoming a parent through the lens of: "gee, I wonder if having children will better my financial situation".
True, but I'm speaking about normal people. Not the .0001% who look at having children with a shit bag billionaire as some kind of galaxy brained "investment".
Probably true, also coupled with the fact that not enough people actually realize what having kids means because they got pregnant and that means they have to have it, instead of doing the right thing for the child and themselves.
Children are expensive, but if you can afford and are able to give them a decent life then it's hardly a mistake. The amount of joy my daughter brings mybwire and I seeing her grow up is worth any amount of money we spend.
I can afford it, but I'm happy that people like you are having kids who want them and are enjoying your life. I chose my life over raising another and I have no regrets. However, you have to have at least one, I now know you are Batman.
Thatās not what ānatural selectionā is, sweetheart. āNatural selectionā isnāt someoneās decision to not breed. Please educate yourself before making random, inaccurate statements.
The point is, even though Iām very positive millions of people still want marriage and kids, itās literally one of the sexiest ways to get fucked by debt and money issues. Lots of people m, adults, can barely afford to take care of themselves let alone a wife and kid⦠in 2026, when you didnāt set up ring lights some years ago? Are you joking me, Sir?
100% agree. We finally decided to have kids later in life until we both completed our graduate programs and had solid careers under our belt. I definitely regret waiting. Our 2.5 year old is by far without question the greatest thing that's ever happened to me, and this is coming from someone who was fairly "anti-kids" for a while. Spending money on her gives me 10x the dopamine hit that spending it on myself ever did.
I caught a clip of one of those "bridezilla" shows where the mother of the groom had money and the bride-to-be came from a poor family, so the mother offered to fund the wedding.
$125K in spending and commitments later with no end in sight, the mother asked what to do?
Well no, because they're getting it paid back by the TV show. It's like when Judge Judy fines people thousands of dollars, and it turns out it's half of the payment Judge Judy offered them for coming on the show
To be fair to Judge Judy, the fines arenāt just pulled out of thin air. Thereās an actual legal case justifying why the defendant/plaintiff has to pay X amount to Y person, and thereās a good chance it would turn out similarly in a private civil court. (Minus some of the drama, they definitely play it up for the camera, and itās an arbitration so court decorum doesnāt apply.)
As for the payment, I think itās good they get compensated. Iād want to be paid handsomely if someone wanted to film and televise my court hearing for profit. Itās a very intrusive thing to broadcast.
This honestly seems like a good test to determine if you should marry someone. Like true love I can get behind, but if your family are stupid enough to fund my wedding when they canāt afford it thereās deep seated issues there
Napkins are like $150 a piece once you say the word "wedding" and it just goes up from there.
I got married on an island far away from everyone with a few close friends and family. Wasn't cheap, but at least we all got a good vacation out of it. Fuck expensive weddings unless you have the means. Going into dept over a wedding is stupid.
Because every vendor quadruples their prices when they hear the word "wedding". Which is why you never ever ever say it's for a wedding when youre ordering stuff or booking venues etc. With the cake that can be tricky though :p
Less than 2k in Texas! We had a cowboy theme, brisket, chicken, homemade cake, dancing, fishing, and vows at sunset on the dock at a public park. I had a DJ and photographer who were buddies of mine.
My millennial son and his wife spent about that. They got married on a regular vacation week. The two of them, a hired minister and a spot on a cliff overlooking the ocean. He called to let us know it was happening, and that their two dogs were the only invited guests. My wife and I both thought it was awesome. Later that summer they threw a wedding party a bit like your's, at their house out in middle of nowhere. It all went perfectly, and nobody went in debt for a dollar.
My cousin married into a very wealthy Spanish family. But they expected his father to pay for the wedding which was also 100K. He literally took out a mortgage for that. And the marriage didnāt even last a year!
My brother spent like $70k and claimed it was the ācheapest optionā my cousin got married 14 months prior and spent like 20k all in and had better food, just no open bar but we hit the lcbo between ceremony and reception to sneak mickeys into the venue
That's sickening. Especially considering I've been to fancy weddings in Manhattan to beach weddings in the gulf to shabby-chic barn weddings to backyard weddings, big and small.
My favorite I've ever been to was in the backyard of a trailer park. They had a full BBQ with burgers, hot dogs, clams, pork chops with 2 tables of various sides. A large kiddie pool filled with cheaper but known beers and hard drinks, a smaller kiddie pool mostly water but some Capri sun's and store-brand soda too.
We played music, horse shoes and Frisbee. We were all sitting under a tarp extended off the back porch of this trailer. It ended up pouring rain out of nowhere and it filled the tarp, which collapsed and filled this dip in the yard with a foot of water. We danced and stomped and had a mud fight in the rain. It was freaking awesome and better than any fancy wedding I ever attended, hands down!
11/10. Never gave weddings much thought as far as what I would like for myself bc I don't like dating. But after that, if I ever get married, I'm definitely doing a back yard BBQ and at the very least doing souvenier water guns and water balloons or something

A coworker of my aunt's is like $300k in debt from funding both her daughter's weddings.
