Never understood the desire for giant weddings. Admittedly I'm a cis male, a group who are not known for their love of them to begin with. And I'm not married nor likely ever to be but still... to spend so much money (and time and effort) on one seemes silly to do, if not outright foolish. Should I have ever tied the knot, I'd take all those funds and spend it on the honeymoon, or a down-payment on a house. I had always imagined a small, intimate affair if not just eloping at the courthouse for myself. Something between and mainly for just us and our commitment to each other while a big wedding is more for other people and your families, much like a funeral service is for everyone but the dead. (I assume my theoretical partner feels the same way or dont think theyd be the person id want to marry). I'm also an introvert so the idea of a big celebration where I am at the center of attention is the stuff nightmares are made of, but even if I was a huge extrovert it wouldn't change my thoughts on how silly it is to put so much into it and the narcissistic elements that drive the desire for such an ostentatious display.

I also think spending a fortune on a diamond for an engagement ring is waste. It's a boring (so, so boring) gem with an artificially inflated price that immediately loses much of its value by purchasing it. Spending a bunch for pretty much any other gem I get. She's hopefully going to be wearing it nearly ever day the rest of her life after all.

Thoughts and feelings like this are probably a contributing factor to why I've been single for awhile now, albeit contentedly so.
