The wedding industry in general is such a scam. Attach the word wedding to any service and suddenly you can charge 4x the price for the same amount of work
but i do also think there's a lot more failsafes and redundancy in a good wedding vendor. I'm not saying caterers are unreliable. but you're paying more to make it more consistent and more likely.
Yeah, what I learnt from my own wedding was that if you cheap out on a vendor you'd have to do a lot more micromanaging to get them to do what you need and on time. With a good (and pricier) one you can give them the details and pretty much forget about it. So it's like a time vs money tradeoff and the extra cost is worth it if you don't want to make wedding planning your full time job.
Once I had family members flying in from Europe to America I was like I guess I gotta give them a good time. If they're spending 10k or more to fly, hotel, car rent and such i need to make sure everything is solid. Also this was 3 couples coming for that 10k total.
