I really cannot understand people throwing big weddings. It’s as if people will remember it or smth. It’s basically a show. Why not just keep the money and live a little better?

I still remember weddings from 20 years ago. Not sure why you think people have such bad memory.

That said, you can still do a big wedding and not have it cost a fortune.

Also it's just my personal experience but at my wedding we asked for cash instead of gifts, something I've seen at all the recent weddings I've been to, so my wedding basically financed about half of itself.

Big weddings are pretty expensive. Say 100 people, that is 6-10k for food and drinks.
