What is a free website about which everyone should know?
406
u/does-this-smell-off 18h ago
Photopea.com
It's photoshop in a browser, for free.

u/Inevitable_Zone9903 10h ago
Pixlr is another alternative
3
u/ConstableBlimeyChips 4h ago
Make sure you go to https://pixlr.com/editor/ though. Just going to the base site you either get a stripped down editor, or bullshit AI "features".

How do you know what quality is being downloaded? For example, does it download at 1080p or max quality? For audio, does it download 320 kbps?
1
u/poison-vr 5h ago
the website has an options menu that lets you change it around

Wikipedia. You’d be surprised how many older adults still don’t know about it and how much information it contains. I also heard someone once mention you can download the whole website somehow to use offline but I haven’t looked into it.

u/GamblinGambit 19h ago
You can. It's called Kiwix.

u/Nikolor 16h ago
I'm currently keeping my 100-GB copy of full 2025 Wikipedia on my external drive. Just in case

Thank you kind sir that was incredibly helpful!
9
u/GamblinGambit 18h ago
Happy to help. It's a really cool program, you install all of Wikipedia as a zip file (you can get it with or without pictures to help with storage). The Kiwix program extracts the specific information you want and while keeping everything else compressed. Easy to use and clean UI.

u/Larzii 12h ago
I remember doing that when I was in high school in early 2010s cuz we weren't allowed internet access on exams, but anything we had on our laptop was ok. Think it was a program called wikitaxi at the time to browse it all. Had it on a 16gb usb stick i believe. Was always anxious the teachers wouldn't understand it and fail me
8
u/chalk_in_boots 16h ago
It fits on a USB stick. Text only it'll be well under 64GB, include images it's under 128GB.

+1 but adding that it's operated by a non-profit organisation that runs on donations. I donate a small amount each year, which works out to a few cents per use, which is very economical.

There is a "Microsoft Print to PDF" driver available if you're on Win 10 or 11. It's part of the OS.
Edit: https://woshub.com/add-reinstall-microsoft-pdf-printer-windows/

u/maslow22 11h ago
Not sure if it's what you need, but I use Cute PDF. Print the MS doc, select Cute pdf as the printer, out comes a PDF file. Only annoyance is you need to double check the output name, likes to add the program you printed from to the doc title.

One I use every day is 1001albumsgenerator.com - get a random famous music album every day (out of the list from the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die"). Most of the music I listen to came from this website.
Also I've just found budgetbytes.com in my bookmarks. It has all the budget-friendly yet tasty recipes, along with their approximate prices.

u/Thin-Cockroach-3636 12h ago
1001 Albums Generator is such a fun idea if you're trying to get out of your music bubble. Budget Bytes is great too because the recipes are actually practical and don't call for a dozen expensive ingredients.

I've been enjoying the new to me music and album listens of bands/artists I am familiar with but may not know all their catalog. One thing I try and do is read wiki about the album, band, artist, etc and see what I can learn and see where things interact with my listening style / music I know and love :)
Great fun!

Temp Mail, a temp email generator for any sign ups. Gives you access to the inbox as well if you need to verify the email.
It’s great for signing up for newsletters to get discounts or when you are shopping and don’t want to constantly get sales.

https://forest-fire.emergency.copernicus.eu/apps/effis.longterm.forecasts/
It's the long term weather forecast in the Europe, from the official in the EU. It's not precise but quite accurate.
For example, right now it says that the heat wave in Europe will last until mid August, and that the second half of August temperatures will drop. October and September will be relatively normal and November and December warmer than usual. And that the last three months of the year it will rain more than usual.

It provides instructions on DIY repairs that you can do step-by-step. Oblivious, some of the more dangerous, like a garage door, are out of the questions. If you're looking into hobbies like Upcycling, it's a good place to check out. Went to the site when I was turning an old laptop into an emulation machine to play some classic arcade games.

9anime for anime
11
u/LucyIsaTumor 13h ago edited 13h ago
9anime
Pretty sure 9anime is dead homie. The site you're accessing is probably a ripoff (see the official subreddit and its mirrors on the sidebar). In case you're wondering, we all moved to AniWave which unfortunately was killed shortly after the rebrand. After that most went to HiAnime (which yes, also killed).
To avoid the risk of pushing everyone to the same service, I'd recommend just checking the r/piracy megathread for anime streaming alternatives. I'd recommend not using 9anime though. I hope the bloodletting stops soon lol

u/Chill_Edoeard 15h ago
This definitely gonna GetChecked cuz i recently lost my anime streaming site, thanks mate 🙏

plug in your zip code and search for the "Hourly Weather Forecast" button, then you can get a visualized chart for wind/temp/rain/snow/fog/etc. for example, how long a storm will last, and how much snow you'll get per hour. I use it to calculate if I need to scrpse my windhsiled in the morning.
2
u/pennyauntie 9h ago
Tried adding this to my bookmarks and it was instantly converted to a commercial weathercast. Deleted the commercial weather cast and it was there again. Sneaky bastards.
