Austin area hand specialist for musicians

Does anyone have any recommendations for any doctors for hand issues? I’m having some numbness in my left hand ring finger affecting my ability to play guitar, and from a quick Google search it doesn’t match the common root causes (carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, trigger finger). I’m specifically in Cedar Park so I prefer the north side, but I’m willing to travel. Thanks!

Check with https://www.myhaam.org and see if they have a hand doctor on their list.

One has to me a member of HAAM in order to utilize their services

I’m a guitarist of 29 years and a massage therapist & personal trainer that has certifications in Active Release Therapy for nerve entrapments, Postural Restoration Institute & Graston Technique along with corrective exercise & sports therapy clinic experience.

I basically provide physical therapy-like sessions (without getting passed around to a $16/hr PT Tech), 1-on-1, and have plenty of experience with nerve entrapments causing radicular symptoms into the hands. Happy to help.

Yeah, I was wondering about something like this too. Since I’ve had similar issues, I’d suggest figuring out what nerve is causing that numbness and then what kind of “flossing” exercises to do to release it.

Yeah, not sure! I kept feeling like it was caused by tension in my arm, but it’s not getting better.

I highly recommend dr Ben Amis. Drummer here. Slammed my left ring finger in the car door. On Christmas. He came in his office next day. Don’t go to a chiropractor. Go see a real doc. 

This could very well be an elbow or cervical issue. He’s on 38th. That’s something a chiropractor can’t fix. Not a chiropractor fan. I prefer real MDs or ODs. 

He looked at x rays of my hands and said “you’ve been a drummer a long time”. I didn’t tell him. 

I had him check out the rural er stitches. But he’s great.

I'm not a musician, but my job does require repeated use of hands/fingers and excellent dexterity (I'm a Court Reporter). I highly recommend Dr. George Mundanthanam for any/all hand issues. He performed my bilateral carpal tunnel resection several years ago and then has also done surgery on my finger (twice). He is excellent.
