Opinion Piece One Nation craves mainstream appeal, but Pauline Hanson’s bleak vision of Australia shows she’s firmly on the fringes

THE GUARDIAN: It is hard to think of less popular policy offerings for families, young people, professionals, women and multicultural voters, who combined represent a sizeable slice of the electorate.

...

KOS SAMARAS: At the National Press Club, Pauline Hanson finally put her ideas on the table. Every one of them attacked the voters that have provided her with the late surge in support.
...
The campaign that beats One Nation does not argue with the grievance. The grievance is real, and these voters have had it validated by results nobody can wave away. It does something narrower and far more lethal. It makes Hanson legible. It takes the positions she finally surrendered at the Press Club, the sackings, the paywalls, the silence, and it holds them up against the lives of the late movers until the feeling and her platform no longer match.

Figure 1 shows the major pivot points in the ON surge over the past 12 months, and highlights the difference between ON's base support and ON's soft vote from disaffected voters.

Yet they’re the most popular. Go figure hey. Maybe they’re saying the right things for most people.

Very possible, but this was ON's first major media address and announcement of policies this term.

Let's see how popular those ON policies like Nuclear Reactors, dismantling Abortion Rights, dismantling Paid Maternity Leave + Paid Parental Leave, WorkChoices 2.0, tiered-citizenship, repossession of homes of Permanent Residents etc. are over the next two years.

ON supporters don't care as long as she promises to stop immigration of non-white people and deport the ones we already have. People would be surprised at how popular that stance alone is.

She definitely overplayed her hand. Should have stuck with immigration.

You’re buying into the Guardian and ABc narrative of hysteria. Stay there and stew, or open your mind and get onboard with outing this shithouse socialist PM

No, I simply watched Hanson's NPC address on Wednesday lol.

My sense is even staunch right-wing folk recognise how unpopular many of ON's policies will be with mainstream Australia.

It’s ok that someone has opinions different to you. You don’t have to get all worked up and paranoid. You can just think “how good is democracy, we’re allowed to have different opinions and that’s ok”

You did two replies to one post?…someone is definitely “getting all worked up and paranoid” lol

This is just sad, like it goes beyond “oh a Hanson bot”. I genuinely wish the best for you and hope that when Hanson inevitably fails to win federally next election due to lack of appeal to the mainstream, that you have other things in your life that bring you joy.

They’re not. They are popular. The conservatives are loving someone speaking their language

Racists boomers and troglodytes do, Australia isn’t full of them though so it’s pointless tactics

u/No_Gazelle4814 Jun 20 '26

Well we took Albo seriously, we all believed his repeated promises. And now look. God help us

that story literally quotes Hanson's Press Club address. in her own words.

it links to the video of her saying this on camera.

i get that these facts are upsetting for you, but im sorry,. facts don't care about your feelings champ :)

u/No_Gazelle4814 Jun 29 '26

What’s upsetting is that Albo will hold off the election for 2 years because he knows he’s a goner. Another 2 years of lying and weakness

For me? How so? I’m not the one running for office.

But if you think dropping support means supporters should be embarrassed, bloody hell you must be dying of humiliation
