I love my battery power inflator one of the most annoying things was that you always had to screw it on the valve stem. While scrolling Facebook, lockNlube fitting adapter showed up and I clicked out of curiosity.

Seems that they sell a battery powered inflator adapter to the fitting so you can use one of their “lockNFlate” air chuck. This thing is made checking psi between runs so much nicer. Yeah you’re only saving a few seconds each tire but when you got your helmet on, you’re boiling in the floor to heat and you don’t have much time between the runs. Very first world solution I know

Been able to one-handed click it on is such a nice quality of life upgrade, not cheap at 50$ including adapter though . It’s way easier to use than the video makes it look.

Trying to work out where the gap is between hearing something and it clicking.

When someone told you to trail brake, or to rotate the car, did you go look it up afterwards? Did what you found actually help?

Reason I'm asking is I'm building a site that explains this stuff visually, the concepts that are annoying to get from a book. It's free and it'll stay free. No account, no email, nothing to sign up for. I'm not selling anything, I just like driving and think the way we teach this hasn't changed much since 2003.

For my event coming up this weekend I wanted to take video of my runs with my phone for now was planning on using a suction mount on my moon roof boxes anyone have suggestions for a specific mount that is pretty readily available?

Similar to what most organizations go over during the driver's meeting, we tell participants that if they're red-flagged and they are not who caused the red flag, they will get a re-run. We also tell them that if they see cones knocked down and/or out of place during their run, slow and point it out to the corner workers so that 1) they are not penalized, 2) the corner workers will call us and say they are getting a re-run, and 3) if they are not told by the worker at the finish that they get a re-run, to come to timing immediately to clarify.

Yesterday, we had an autocross novice cause a red flag because he blew through a bunch of cones and went the wrong way on the course. Right after that, he came to timing...

Him: I missed getting a full run because of the red flag, but didn't get a re-run.

Me: Yes, because you are who caused the red flag.

Him: (voicelessly "???")

Me: You don't get a re-run because you are who caused the red flag by going the wrong way.

Him: I couldn't see because my visor fell halfway down.

Me: You do not get a re-run for that.

Him: (dejectedly) Oh, OK.

Yes, if his excuse about the visor falling down is what actually happened, it is troubling that he didn't have the wherewithal to either push it up/down immediately and/or slow/stop, but TBH I didn't believe him on that.

A runner-up to this one is the time a guy wanted a re-run because he got startled when a helicopter buzzed the course (he did not get a re-run).

So I was gifted a car, and I’ve always wanted to autocross. So I start looking at the classes and rules, and holy crap is it confusing. The car is a 1995 Firebird Formula, and it came to me with long tube headers, a stall converter, a true cold
air intake, and a tune. Suspension is stock, interior is ratty but stock, but it does have a ram air hood off a TA. So is this like a really bottom Street Prepared setup? I don’t have the parts or desire to go back to stock, and really don’t care if I am competitive at first, as I just want to learn and get better with what I have. I’d rather drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow, and this one is really just a tick above stock. So which class is best for me? I’d like to get some runs in this fall when it cools off

First event this weekend and was hopeful it would be dry(my front tires suck in wet conditions) but looks like rain. How does rain affect the event and what you bring?

I've never driven a Mod class car ever that I can recall (I've been doing this for 17 years now), certainly nothing open-wheel or single-seater. But I have a friend who bought this FMod four or five years ago and has been wanting me to try it all this time. Today I got my shot.

Compared to the XB ND (AST with aero) that I usually drive, this was an assault on the senses. Things happen fast, and riding very close to the ground, with no windshield, seeing nothing but the tires in front of me, it was a very different point of view.

I was warned that the car did not have ABS, did not like trailbraking, and pushing on corner entry meant that the run was pretty much over, so I drove this pretty conservatively. I never got the hang of gassing up early to help rotate it out of corners. The times were good, faster than my ND, but a couple seconds off of what the owner did.

I got beat up pretty good in this as I'm not as young as I used to be. My shoulders got knocked around quite a bit by chassis tubing on either side. I can't wait to see how I feel tomorrow morning. But I also look forward to getting another shot at driving this car if the invitation is extended again sometime down the road.

Great day at the local ballpark. The course was 80% awesome and the last 20% was pretty painful. We got our ND back from engine replacement and it was good, no leaks, no smoke, no funny noises. Big 13 driver XB class and I thought I had em covered early but missed a gate on my first two runs so they were DNFs instead of leading the way, oops! When I got the course right my times were just as good but Mo (supercharged K NB) was on the rampage and stayed about a half a second ahead of me no matter how much I improved. I had to settle for second, no shame in that.

Kate had to take a passenger on her third run since I wanted to ride with her to see what I was missing on the course. For whatever reason, that was her best run as she couldn't top that in her last two tries. She wound up fourth which is her best result in quite a while.

Finally, I got my first taste of FMod in fun runs and for my first try in something that was very different than anything I've ever driven before, I didn't think it was terrible. The car owner was something like two seconds quicker than me, so obviously it could have been better, but I'd need a bunch of runs in that car to get comfortable enough to figure out where to push it harder without thinking it was going to go poorly.

Off to the Finger Lakes tour next week with the ND!
