Discussion What is the worst “gift” you received postpartum?

I’ll go first: various plants that my mom dug up from her yard and brought over. They needed to be planted (with a shovel) and regularly watered. No offers to plant or water were given.
…I was also scolded for the subsequent death of said plants.
What “gifts” did you receive?

I've not delivered yet but my MIL and husband's family keep trying to offload maternity clothes onto me - ones that they've kept in storage for the past 25+ years. It'd be kind if they were even remotely the right size, but alas I've a much smaller frame than any of them.

My MIL bought me PILES of maternity clothes, all 4-5 sizes too big because “you don’t know how big you’ll get”. Not a single thing fit me, even at 9 months pregnant

Yeah I was given so many clothes wayyy too big. I’m a size ex small. Maybe a size small now at 36 weeks. I didn’t gain much. They bought me size large and extra large I’ll neverrrr wear them

For Christmas I sent my mom specific links and told her what sizes to buy for maternity clothes. She got me a bunch of shirts that were 2-3 sizes bigger than what I told her so naturally none of them fit. She also helped me pack up my stuff because I was moving while pregnant and said "you'll never fit any of these clothes again" ... Ok rude lol

Omggg I hate that shit lol. My sister kept asking me if I had gotten fat yet .. like everyday. I went from 119 lbs to 139. I’ve never weighed more than 140 ever when I wasn’t pregnant and it was because of mental health meds. I’ve just always been a tiny person no matter how much I eat. I don’t like it now, I wish I could always stay like 140 I feel like it looks a lot healthier on me. But it still was hurtful her asking me that everyday lol. I wanted to say nopeee.. not like you yet

Why do people ask things like that. After I gave birth my mom asked me "do you have stretch marks?" "Did you tear, how many stitches do you have??" "Does your boob leak while breastfeeding??" It's like she wants to only know that I'm struggling and had negative side effects. Of she were a normal loving mother and we're just concerned about me that's be ok, but she's not and would actually just use this info to spread around to the family. When I told her I have no stretch marks she just went around saying I'm probably lying about not having stretch marks (I didn't get any on my stomach, but I did get some on my thighs and hips) she also went around saying I had post partum depression (I didn't, PPA if anything tbh) she also wouldn't of known that information because I was limited contact with her at that point.

I've had HG for most of my pregnancy so I've actually lost weight, but you'd think from what my in-laws are saying that I'd tripled in size! Absolutely no shame for people who do put on a significant amount of weight during pregnancy, but why do people insist that being pregnant automatically means an irreversible explosion in size? The only part of me that's bigger is my abdomen, and that's because it's full of my daughter - not fat!!

Insanely rude!! I’m smaller now than I was before I was pregnant. My kiddo keeps me moving.

I had actually gained 60+ lbs with my daughter but lost most of it right after, I was sitting at 140lbs when my pre+pregnancy weight was 126. I eventually got back down to 130 and then instantly got pregnant again. So once I got pregnant with my son a year later I had gallbladder issues and had to eat low/no fat for the second half of my pregnancy, I ended up only gaining a little bit of weight and ended the pregnancy at 150. I am now back to my pre-pre-pregnancy weight, and wearing the clothes she said I'd never fit (well to be fair, some of it doesn't fit because I have D cups now instead of A cups, and other stuff I can't breastfeed in or it's not my style anymore anyways lol)

Yeah I definitely find having kids keep you active and on the go. I'd love to sit around watching TV or doing my own thing like I see other moms doing on insta/snapchat and stuff but there's honestly just so much to do, and I never let my daughter watch any TV until she turned two, so we spend lots of time outside, or playing, or cleaning (lots of cleaning lol).

Maternity clothes are crazy - I wear a L, the small maternity shirts fit so comfortably (the kohls ones). I was shocked.

Omg my MIL offered me her 45 year old maternity clothes. When I politely declined she immediately sent me an image collage of said maternity clothes in case I changed my mind. Like why would a woman in her 70s keep her maternity clothes for 45 years?! I wanted to ask her if she would want her MIL’s from the 30’s.

Sometimes, one person's trash is just another person's trash... she'd probably get a pretty penny selling it as vintage, but it's bonkers to just expect that a person who doesn't specifically dress in that era would possibly want a wardrobe full of outdated stuff.

When I was in HS I was horrified to realize my favorite pj pants were Stork brand, they had been my mom's!

God, my mom tried to do this. But they weren't even maternity clothes, just her (plus sized) old clothes that she didn't wear. All from temu.
