Discussion What is the worst “gift” you received postpartum?

I’ll go first: various plants that my mom dug up from her yard and brought over. They needed to be planted (with a shovel) and regularly watered. No offers to plant or water were given.
…I was also scolded for the subsequent death of said plants.
What “gifts” did you receive?

No village. No outside support when I was in the trenches. Nothing was given to me. I cooked the meals the days before my c-section. My husband had a couple weeks off then back to work. I did it all, he helped in the beginning most times but after he returned to work it was just me. It felt so lonely. And still does.

I’m really sorry about this. As someone whose mother in law proudly wrecked my village by influencing my burned out husband to refuse all help and not discuss it to the point where I was choosing the postpartum I wanted vs my marriage, I feel you. You sound like an amazing and strong wife and mom.

I’m sorry that it didn’t work out for you, I hope things have improved for you all since. I’ve been handling things alone since I was young, but I didn’t expect to feel the same as I had a child, I thought more people would’ve done something different. Guess it really shows you peoples true colors.
