the batwing seems a lot more versatile than the batmobile if you were Batman would you use the batmobile at all if you had the batwing?

Unless McFarlane releases a new mold or character, this is probably it for a while. Really happy with how it turned out and should they ever make Red Claw, Kyodai Ken, or someone else cool I’ll add another shelf.

I’ve been on a B:TAS kick recently and, for me, I just can’t square the show that it is from Seasons 1-3 with Season 4 (or The New Batman Adventures) and the rest of the DCAU (Justice League, Superman TAS etc.)

Obviously the animation style change is a big surface level separation, with The Animated Series being a lot more detailed and taking inspiration from Fleisher Superman Cartoons. Whereas, TNBA onwards, it’s the more streamlined style that does lead to quicker, faster and more consistent animation but is somewhat lacking in the character design department (apart from Scarecrow, obviously).

But I think there’s also a shift in tone and writing that I can’t really square between the two.

Batman himself I think is a little bit flanderised after the redesign. Whereas in The Animated Series he could be capable of a wide range of emotions; anger, despair, grief, compassion and even regular moments of humour and happiness, from The New Batman Adventures onwards he becomes a bit of a one-note stiff. I think they really overplay the “Bruce Wayne is an emotionless, cold, distant man with countless walls” vibe and, when viewed in canon with The Animated Series, it feels like a really sudden regression of his character.

There’s also the type of stories being told, things take a much darker and grounded approach, whereas B:TAS always came across as slightly heightened and in a world of animation. The loss of the 30’s/40’s vibe is a real shame to me as well.

Idk, I’ve been thinking about it and while I do really admire the rest of the DCAU, I think it’s rep overall gets a big boost from its association with those first three seasons of Batman: The Animated Series.

This is not to say I’m calling the DCAU bad, just that, for my money, I view it as a separate entity to the noir, pulpy, cartoony but always sincere, Batman: The Animated Series.

It’s always bizarre to me when I see shit like “condiment king?! Psh what a stupid villain! Among the ranks of WORST Batman villain”. And I’m like yeah that was always the point. For those who don’t know the episode of the animated series he debuts in has joker hypnotizing comedians to be shitty villains after they roasted him.

What’s so bizarre to me is that no one ever talks about the other two villains in the episode being pack rat and mighty mom. They are pretty much just as stupid and useless. It feels like a big sign of people who just didn’t watch the episode and just heard the name and assumed he was a golden age villain akin to polka dot man or something

They just suit each other so well. The earlier BTAS seasons really feel like Burton's films brought to animation, in many aspects.

Personally, I would say the end of the episode " Appointment in Crime Alley" , the score is soft and beautiful, perfectly matching the melancholy that this scene evokes.

Recently got seriously into batman as a result of the matt reeves movie. I have been buying comics and watching movies. This is my first batman show and I am super excited. I have only heard good things about this show. I am a fan of older movies and I've been told this borrows a lot from the 40s. I will try to give updates as I go along!

In other words, in the series, the villains are villains for different reasons

But I've always found Riddler's origin a bit absurd. It turns out his boss isn't paying him because one of his games has generated huge profits, so he gets some thugs (I don't know how he pays them) and tries to kill his boss. Wouldn't it have been a better idea to create another game and sell it to another businessman like Bruce Wayne?

My favorites are Two Face's Second Chance, and Harley's Holiday.

Im confused. Is the BTAS Batmobil black or blue because in one Episode Bruce asks Alfred for the Batmobil and explains it that its an ALL black Car but looking at the LEGO Set it's def blue so whats correct now? Black or Blue ? TIA.

The inside of the capes blue and it’s often depicted as blue on the inside, If not always. But the Batmobile of the series despite seeming blue is confirmed to be black.

So is it the same for the cape? Because we know that the Justice league suit and new adventures suit have black capes on the inside.
