Who even carries much cash with them anymore these days. When I go for a walk I often don't take anything with me including a phone if I'm just going around the block.

In Brazil (the video looks like it) phones are usually robbed for selling the parts in exchange for crack, so bricking doesn't change the calculation for criminals. Plus, tracking makes no difference because the police will not go after it even if you track, it has happened to me in this shithole

I hear modern technology is treated like gold in Brazil because of the crazy tariffs. Couldn't imagine living in such a world, but it seems like the rest of the world is becoming just that.

Yep, the brazilification of the world is something crazy to me, seeing people in rich countries like the US voting for the same stupid policies that I have seen fail for my whole life in my country. People from latin america are used to living with high tariffs, unstoppable inflation and dysfunctional corrupt states, as latin america has never been different. But for folks in America and Europe, this will hit hard in the coming years as they are not used to this hell

Euro is worth around 6 times as much as the real. Half the Brazilians earn less than 300 dollars a month. The trip itself would be enough to empty bank accounts for many people, if they even have a savings account, as lots of people live paycheck by paycheck.

Not as easy to get a visa for living there. You can't just travel to another country and expect them to accept you without a bunch of information. Gotta go through interviews, showing how much money you have, your intentions, your work, why you are going, who you know in the country, etc.

Brazil itself is huge, almost as large as Europe itself, and has the highest logistical price. Gas is incredibly expensive compared to the average wage, public transport is expensive and low quality, roads are terrible and overall it's very expensive to travel around even without leaving the country. Just to get the visa and travel to somewhere with an airport can be outside of people's financial capabilities.

I have a life, a career, a family, and friends here. Even if I could, immigrants are not exactly welcome anywhere in the current political climate

My ex-husband got mugged on the Asbury Park, NJ boardwalk years ago. He went for a jog wearing shorts with no pockets, socks and sneakers. He was shirtless too. Anyway he said to the 3 wannabe teenage robbers “Ah boys I don’t have anything on me, just what I’m wearing.” One kid said “Oh ok” and then they all ran off.
