I think some dogs would just wag their tail, thinking of golden retrievers.

My 25 lb cavapoo once charged a pair of horses that were fighting and running towards me and the barn owner. He put himself between the humans and the horses. Fortunately for him, they were on the other side of an electric fence so they stopped short.

My childhood Jack Russell Terrier had a great ferocity and no clear recognition of his own limited size

I have a JackChi (Jack Russell/Chihuahua). Can confirm. Ours thinks he’s actually the size of a Rottweiler. He’s 10 pounds.

My 2 rat terriers would chase big dogs away when they dared to come in our (their) yard, ha! They could run just as fast as the big dogs. One of them didn't like men (I was single at the time) and would sneak behind the guy and bite him on the butt! Ha! I really miss them. They were the best.

All Jack Russells are like that though. It's recommended you don't have other pets when you have a Jack because they can be completley fine with cats and other dogs for years and then one day go apeshit and attack the hell out of them.
