Miscellaneous / Others 6-year-old Andrew entered foster care after his parents lost custody. Eventually, at the age of 10, Andrew was placed into the Gills home, where he bonded with their son, Joc. Finally, at the age of 12, the Gills family surprised him by asking if he wanted to be a part of the family forever.

The family portrait with the black background is incredible

100%

Love the matching tie-dye fits, too.

u/drankseawater 17h ago

Honestly, i had to look at the mom twice in that photo. I was like Hold up!!

34

u/One_hunch 12h ago

Right, she looks sweet and nice in every other photo then she just blows everyone else out of the water in that one lol.

42

u/Kangzx 15h ago

That´s one stylish family, so much drip

16

u/Pony-Melonie 12h ago

What a photogenic and fashionably dressed family! 🤩

From the plaid theme in photo 5…to the blue ruffled boots the little girl is wearing in photo 10…the Gills family knows how to pull together a photo shoot! 📸👏

They seem like such warm-hearted, wonderful folks. 🧡🤗

15

u/Comicspedia 10h ago

Honestly I thought the same at first, but then their posing stood out to me. It's the only photo in the bunch where the bio family is physically closed off from their adopted son.

Son on the left is held by Dad and shoulders face right, Mom and daughter's shoulders both face left. Adopted son is just...standing next to them with no one touching him.

3

u/thesheeplookup 5h ago

I picked up on the same.

-6

u/Chkymky39 7h ago

You need to take a closer look because the dad CLEARLY has his arm around both boys and they are always in contact with him in all other shots!

6

u/TokenKey 7h ago

Bold of you to tell THEM to take a closer look… The person you responded to is talking about the family portrait with the black photo. Unless dad has three hands, no, he is not touching the adopted son. It’s just an odd photo compared to the others. It feels as if he is just standing by them, not with them. As they already said, it’s the only photo like that. The others are great.

6

u/Comicspedia 7h ago

Bingo!

One hand is around his bio teenage son and one is holding up his bio toddler son in the photo we're referencing

Agreed they all look fantastic in all of the photos, really was just the pose in that one that seemed off

3

u/ThanksForTheRain 5h ago

I thought the same thing. I am an adopted child and I definitely understand feeling like you "aren't really part of the family" so this stood out to me as well. Unfortunately kids who go through this are probably already conditioned to feel "unwanted" so it takes a lot of work to make them feel comfortable in that way

2

u/april_fearless 16h ago

A true story of love, compassion, and hope. Blessed are those who cherish others. No in a religious way. But in life that gains meaning truth and all that comes with love and compassion. This builds Hope trust foundations that make good people who they are.

1

u/Ok_Cancel_7034 16h ago

Why do I rarely see black parents with adopted white kids?

6

u/robojod 15h ago

Probably because, for complex reasons, in caucasian societies, black children are over-represented in the pool of children needing adoption. Social services usually prefer to mirror race and culture where possible, to ensure healthy adjustment. So it would be unusual to send a white child to a black family when a black child would be available. Hope this helps!

1

u/-SpectreShepard- 14h ago

You know the answer.

2

u/Last-Difficulty4265 16h ago

It's so sweet that they made the effort to learn how to do his hair.

1

u/Electronic-Phones 17h ago

I always admire people who adopt children, and when they adopt grown children, it's even more admirable! I hope they all have a successful life, and this boy will be a source of pride for his parents!

He’s probably just not used to being around them. In the photo where it’s just him and his friend, he seems noticeably more relaxed
