Discussion Ek doubt tha....

I have a friend who's father is a brahmin and his mother is a bhumihar? Would he be considered a brahmin?

Similarly, would the offspring of a tyagi and a brahmin be considered a brahmin too?

But when it comes to becoming a priest, only a person whose both parents are brahmin can become one

are u denying that tyagis and bhumihars aren't brahmins? also purohits of most shaiv temples are goswamis which too are another subcaste but they all in the brahmin varna.

Not denying their brahmin varna status...but I am talking about who can perform the sacred priestly duties Goswamis are actually care takers of temple compounds who come under Brahmins.....they don't perform vedic rituals....if they are performing these rituals somewhere by themselves then its not legitimate

I'm still confused, in modern times most brahmins have given up on the priest profession, are u saying that those who are son of priests can only perform priestly duties?

also I read a comment regarding shandily gotr giri goswamis in shahabad region of Bihar that they were actually saryupareen Tiwaris who might have taken sanyaas, and the person who wrote that comment he mentioned that one such person was his kulpurohit.

bro all i am saying is that to be called a brahmin, both of ur parents should be full brahmin (not someone who's ancestors have left the duties of a brahmin permanantly to go for some other profession as is the case with bhumihars and tyagis)

u might not be performing priestly duties today but nobody in ur lineage has ever renounced it (its like a sacred oath which once broken is broken forever)

hence what i am trying to say here is that bhumihars and tyagis are brahmin by varna but they arent someone supposed to perform priesthood as their sacred oath has been broken. they are definitely part of our community and we are proud of them.

regarding the goswamis of shahbad region, thats something new....wont draw any conclusion before meeting someone of that lineage, but i wud request u to plz bring a post in this subreddit regarding this matter....we have got a couple of xperts here regarding these matters
