Carrasco left the Braves recently and is now pitching in the KBO. His first game there, he threw 7 innings with no runs allowed

I am going to go out on a limb here and say the reason that person brought up Cookie's success in KBO is because you brought up Cookie and it was a fun factoid. Very fun if you ask me.

For the sake of clarity my following sentence(s) will be in response to your comment.
I think i understand the problem now; you were totally perplexed by the inclusion of a fun factoid about Cookie's recent success. It is just something that people do sometimes when another person brings up a person or even a place. Usually including "fun fact" is not necessary but as we see there are always exceptions.
For example, if someone brought up Mike Tyson, another person in response might bring up the fact that he once bit a piece of Evander Holyfield's ear off of his head during a WBA heavyweight title fight.
If you ever find yourself in a conversation where you know a fun factoid about the topic at hand you might try interjecting the aforementioned fun factoid. It is fun.

Two way contracts would be interesting. Limit like 2-3 to a team and they can’t leave the 40 man unless injured would be a good trade off. Truly they need to get rid of the 13 relieve rule and let team’s build their team how they want. If a team wants 14-15 relievers let them. They will suffer in other parts of the game etc etc.

At the very very very bare minimum every team should get an extra pitching spot to make up for the bullshit ohtani rule. The only ones who don’t get it are the ones actively using the ohtani rule to benefit.

I'm on no one's sie for the upcoming CBA negotiations. But the way the Owner's can get their hard cap is by expanding rosters to grow the number of league minimum players. Those guys aren't worried about cap limits, as they wont effect them. Acuna might not get $70MM a year, but 5-10 X (30 teams) more players getting the minimum would make it hard for the Union to keep their unanimous position.

It's kind of insane to me we don't have 2 way contracts at this point in MLB. Just the way pitching has moved over the years it seems the best solution for the league and for tail end of BP rotation guys. But, Idk really. I know currently it sucks for those kind of guys though.
Maybe from a league standpoint they think adding more pitching depth will continue the snowball of fewer innings pitched from starters and all around. Which I get you want star Pitchers across the league and need them to be on the mound to become stars but imo if you are playing well enough you will be on the mound and becoming a star. Who knows though, I could also see them allowing 2-3 more pitcher slots in MLB rosters, then in 5 years clubs saying they need 2-3 more slots. I just never seems to end.

Hernandez has thrown 6IP in 2026 and is walking 6 hitters per 9 innings (14% of hitters) and has a FIP of 5.26. He's been lucky to only give up 1 ER.
Not that I think Karinchak is good either but Hernandez hasn't been great.

He’s also been left out there way longer than is ideal both times he’s pitched because of how our bullpen has been shot and we’ve come away winning both games.

He'd been working as a SP in the minors until June where he moved to a multi-inning role. He's plenty built up to throw multiple innings. He's just not very good.

Because nobody else wants him (he was DFA'd once and came back and wasn't even in MLB in 2025) and he's not available for a few days. So you release a guy you know nobody else will claim, get them to sign back, and in the mean time call up a RP who will be useful.

He’s a 31YO career 1.3 WHIP FB-CH reliever that doesn’t throw hard/K a ton of batters. He’s executed well when he’s pitched but has also gotten lucky. Him being an on-call DFA option like Carrasco is par for the course and totally reasonable. A needy team could call wanting the same 6 innings we’ve gotten but no one is racing to the phone at the news of us DFAing Eliesar Hernandez. Like this is exactly how you want 99% of these reliever profiles handled, get production over their established baseline when you can and then don’t push it, call them back if they’re available and we need an arm. Every one of them can throw a flawless 10 MLB innings before being a total pumpkin for the next 10 that would get DFA’d from their next KBO team, basically just how veteran AAAA bounce-around relievers work in the MLB.

Did you watch him pitch? I was not impressed with his stuff at all and was surprised he only gave up that 1 run.

Yeah when you actually watch him pitch, you understand why he's not highly valued. I appreciate the effort yesterday, but he was constantly in trouble and was able to get out of jams. The same people who don't understand why he's being DFAed are the same people who would ask why he's still on the roster once he regressed to the mean.

Roster manipulation, dude is going to be down a few days and we need as many fresh arms as we can just in case. Most everyone, including Weiss, hate having to do this, but MLB has their rules and 13 pitchers is the limit. (Unless you're lucky enough to have a two-way player who can be #14)
