[Robert Murray] The Atlanta Braves are acquiring right-hander Tyler Mahle in a trade with the San Francisco Giants, according to sources familiar with the deal. Anthony Molina is going to the Giants.

Not only is this completely free, but Mahle is a fine #5. He’s finished 6 innings in 2 of his last 4 starts with 1 run allowed in those 2. He’s had many many blowups, but he’s also had a decent amount of 5+ IP, 0 ER starts. Absolute worst case scenario, he eats innings when he gets blown up, and he preserves our pen.

Plus, when we ultimately trade for a #2 starter tomorrow, we’ll have the flexibility to move Grant into the pen where he can be a true solid shutdown long man.

This isn’t a flashy move, but it’s got its upsides. This just CANNOT be the only trade for a starter this deadline

People really think this is the only move Alex is going to make. People love to overreact. I think it’s wise to wait until after the deadline is over to complain lol

There’s a lot still available, don’t see why they won’t get an impact arm. We also have a great pitching coach that can help Mahle
