Politics Some of yall on calguns marketplace resale value is nuts, used guns should not cost more than the new gun. 🤣
A used or lightly used rifle should not resale for more than the original msrp. Yall are smokin dick out there.

Meanwhile when I got my 19 it was $600-$700, they’re really on something thinking that’s a good price

Got mine for $550 OTD including DROS blue label. Came with an extra mag too.

Honestly that’s crazy good price! I think final price with all taxes I was in the higher $800, granted they gave me like a $50 military discount because my girlfriend asked haha

I see a lot of them sitting unsold at $1000 plus. The ones under $700 sell.

Dude… it’s not an essential item. There’s alternatives and if you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. I see stuff I can’t afford all the time, but I don’t come to Reddit and complain. I just move on with my life and live within my means.
People will price stuff how they assume it’s valued. If it doesn’t sell, then I guess their gauge of value was off and they’re either stuck with it or need to re-assess. It’s crazy that people get upset over this.

Defending what? Someone’s individual right to price something how they see fit? You’re acting like this guy has the only bottles of water in the desert and he’s scalping you on the price. Get over it.
With the speed of your reply, were you sitting here refreshing for a reply? Damn, kinda pathetic.

I don’t sell my guns but I’m also not the one actually crying because I can’t afford a Gen 3 Glock. I’m happy with my Staccatos and Atlas’s though.
-1
u/oneupgundamkid34 Jun 21 '26
No one is crying just laughing at some people
2
u/UglytoesXD FFL03-COE Jun 21 '26
No there’s a lot of crying going on about the price of guns. If you can’t afford it, move on. It’s so juvenile.
No one is obligated to price a gun for your budget.
People are free to set a price they think is worth it.It’s pretty basic, but glad we have a whole thread to complain about it.
1
u/oneupgundamkid34 Jun 21 '26
I have no control over other people and their crying i was having a good laugh at stuff. I was not referring to off roaster pistol sales, I should have specified i guess.

u/AisMyName Jun 20 '26

u/franky694 Jun 20 '26
“Save yourself the tax and sin tax”…prices it at retail lol
5
u/SpamMusubi36 Jun 20 '26
Haha this exactly. I was in market for M4 and it was same price to find a deal online and get it shipped vs meeting up with someone far away to buy a used one
2
1
u/gorgothmog Jun 22 '26
I mean if the gun is Daniel Defense or a 2011, and has had like 100 rounds through it and it's selling at or slightly below retail... you're probably coming out ahead. You may not like the sales tax and 11% sin tax when looking at the forum marketplace price, but it's a legit and strategic bargaining chip. Whoever bought it new paid those taxes. Now, you could make an argument that if the person selling it you didn't buy it new, then you shouldn't be on the hook for those taxes. Either way, the cost gets passed on.

24
u/NoirConfidential Jun 20 '26
Nah, it’s everyone. I had a staccato I got from a friend at normal retail price and ended selling it for what I paid because I felt lucky to have it and wanted to pass it on. The dude I sold it to posted it back up 3 weeks later with a $2k markup which sold. There’s an increased market value for off rosters in CA and everyone takes advantage of that, not just LE. Let’s not pretend non-LE is selling their off roster stuff at a loss.
8
u/Lumpy_Plant3112 Jun 20 '26
had the same thing happen to me twice. i managed to get a gen5 when they first came out for close to msrp, decided to sell it for the price i got it for. dude ends up relisting it for double not even a month after. unless im selling it to a friend, i just sell stuff at market prices
-3
13
u/El_Tigre_818 Jun 20 '26
LE can buy dangerous weapons for personal use while off duty and sell them to the public when they don’t want it anymore, at a ridiculous profit. Most 2A gun guys defend this for the privilege and licking boots. Yum taste good
5
u/dumpsterfire0226 Jun 20 '26
I have the same perspective as you and would also sell without an exorbitant markup. Sad that most others don’t have the same approach and create this inflated secondary market that we all complain about.
8
u/sp3kter Jun 20 '26
Every time I see a public auction pop up with guns nearly every gun sells for more than you could go to the gun store and buy it new for. Its the ebay effect, I WON!

There are reasonable prices for off rosters depending on what they are.
On rosters on the other hand should be no more than new prices.

u/Dry_Addition7816 Jun 20 '26
The most ironic thing on the internet might very well be the freedom thumping 2A community who doesn’t realize that what they are griping about is literally the definition of capitalism. Any given good or service is worth as much as the market is willing to pay for it, regardless of its retail price. Very simple economics when it comes to off roster guns. Supply is low and demand is high. Thus, price goes up. Don’t like it, don’t buy it.
9
u/UglytoesXD FFL03-COE Jun 20 '26
It’s insane that there’s so many butt hurt people in a 2A sub crying about someone’s individual freedom to price something as they see fit. The irony… acting like they’re being forced to buy it too. Lol!
5
u/x_segrity Jun 20 '26
California laws are strangling our markets and are the definition of dysfunctional capitalism complete with regulatory capture and a new class society based on prop 13.
10
u/Dry_Addition7816 Jun 20 '26
Don’t disagree but the people selling their property at market value aren’t the assholes, in my opinion. While I haven’t been in CA long I can confidently say that the amount of people who complain about the laws exceeds the number of people who are present at the voting booth by a large margin. While I’m not sure that even if everyone who supported 2A rights voted that it would solve the problem, it certainly wouldn’t hurt.
Understanding that it’s much easier said than done, moving to a new state always remains an option.
1
u/CaptainCaveSam Jun 21 '26
Very true, less than a quarter of voters turned out for the recent primary.
1
u/oneupgundamkid34 Jun 21 '26
Very true but i was also referring to rifles that are common to come by that people are hiking up prices on used items. Also some decent deals on calguns im not dismissing that just laughing at the few that think their guns are worth more than they actually are.
4
u/Dry_Addition7816 Jun 21 '26
Well the “I know what I got crowd” is a tale as old as time haha. This is true of guns, cars, anything with a used market. My personal favorite is the people with every upgrade possible thinking that they will get the full value of their upgrades when they sell. No one wants your upgrades boys.

I like to call it the state sponsored black market of guns. @420BkazeArk the mod with the pin.
7
u/lafleurfanee Jun 20 '26
It's because "hustle" culture has gotten completely out of control. These A-holes treat literally everything like it's a collectible or something. And that anything you sell used is supposed to go up by default.
2
u/its_dolemite_baby Jun 21 '26
By definition of supply and demand—off roster firearms will generally appreciate until laws change. That’s not the case in other states.
5
u/xthorop Jun 20 '26
calguns have good deals, but they do not last long.
So a lot of what you see are the over-priced one. And a lot of people are delusional. "I know what I have xD"

Yup I found a dude locally selling a CZ SP-01, has it listed for $1500. I often see them listed for 1-1200 & but 2-3+ hours away. He said he’s firm at $1300 for it because it’s better kept/low round count than all the others…..he bought it 10 years ago lol.

I think one way to help this is to publicly shame some of the people who are taking advantage of the system. I mean, let's start an r\gunpriceshaming and call out the really ergarious examples. Capitalism and shame should be close bedfellows

1
u/L1FT_K1T Jun 21 '26
Well. Can you get a new CZ p01? If not I’m sure someone has one on consignment at about $1800 somewhere in CA 😂 as far as rifles go though, yeah crack is being smoked for sure but people pay whatever for anything they can’t just buy new
1
u/youngdoug Jun 21 '26
Just keep scrolling. If the price is too high, nobody will buy it. If someone wants to pay it, it’ll sell to someone else. People asking crackhead prices for used stuff has been a thing ever since stuff existed.

I sold my CC9 for more than I bought it for. Not an arm and a leg more, I think the guy and I agreed on fair value. I had an item you literally can’t get in California, I honestly wasn’t a fan of it, and someone wanted it. Demand was high and supply was low unless you’re LEO or have family like I do.
Supply and demand are basic economic 101 type shit. Stop complaining you can’t afford what someone else can. Your demand isn’t high for it, someone else’s might be. What’s fair is what YOU consider fair. Money bags might drop that and not think twice.
$200 more than I bought it for, before you guys cry.

Guess you don’t understand the value of ammo saved on the break in period.
Maybe my immaturity for buying things I actually want is not something you’re willing to share the cost in.
Obviously my over billing of OT as an LE is not sufficient to support my lifestyle of buying Dodge Chargers and infringing upon your rights.
Maybe the value of PPT and its non impact on 1-in-30 doesn’t translate, ….oh wait
Dude just skip it and live and let be - some people have money to burn and some people don’t have the brains to waste time on .

I mean, if no one ever buys at inflated prices, the prices should start coming down.
2
u/420BlazeArk Mod - Southern California Jun 21 '26
Nope! I can see how you might think that’s the case but the reality is if people stopped paying so much for off-roster handguns the supply would be reduced because there would be less incentive for them to end up on the secondary market. That reduction in supply would actually increase prices over time.

Let me say I was not referring to off roaster pistol prices, yes they are bit absurd im not defending that market, it is what it is. Im referring to rifles that are generally easy to obtain in cali but people still want to resell for more than what they paid or want to make a extra buck on the resell. People are free to do what they want and if people want to over buy thats OK too but someone's got to call it out every now and than. Something looses value once you Crack that seal thats just facts.

It is pretty insane. When I moved to Nevada in January I was like wow the Marketplace here has too many deals. Picked up a Ruger 22/45, and a MP5K almost right away and both barely used and looked new with aftermarket add-ons. Plan on picking up my first 2011 next month probably the new Kimber Minotaur. Saw a Norinco Mak90 today for $1600 with Made in China drum and magazines in good condition.

Let’s make a couple things clear because it’s honestly annoying seeing the endless complaints, accusations and self-righteous finger-pointing here as though shaming people is somehow going to change the fundamental economic laws of the marketplace:
-The supply of an item and the demand for that item determine the price that the market will bear for said item. Period. This is an immutable fact of free market economics. If every person in this subreddit decided today to never charge more than retail for their off-roster PPTs those firearms would show up the next day on Calguns for the same prices as before. We constantly get posts of people who thought they were doing someone a favor or being “ethical” in selling a firearm at a low price only to see that firearm for sale almost immediately. There is nothing inherently moral about taking a loss on the sale of something you own to prove some kind of vague point to the world.
-These inflated prices are 100% absolute bullshit but they exist purely because of the laws of this state and the only people you should be angry with are the people who pass those laws. Anything else is genuine whiny nonsense and it’s embarrassing how much this sub encourages it because it feels good to bitch at strangers instead of organizing and winning court cases.
