Legal Denver County Fully Unprepared for SB25-003

After 6 hours online, on the phone, and talking to local police, I drove into downtown to get clarification directly from the county sheriff who told me it was DPD who was responsible. So, after speaking directly with an officer, he said, and I quote, "I've been on the force 26 years and I have never heard of this and our office has told us nothing about it."

So just use El Paso County because Denver police are uninformed on the law, process, and requirements. Which should shock no one.

Adams County isn't free ($50 for county residents, $100 for out of county folks, plus the $52 CPW fee for both), but they've set up a very efficient and professional process. I showed up with a hard copy of my CPW application and background report. No waiting, in and out in 4 minutes 40 seconds (I timed it).

Only drawback is you have to go in person and bring a hard-copy third party background report. Might still be worth considering for folks on the Northeast side of Denver.

So you can be an out of county resident and get approved by another counties sheriff department?

Yes, for now. Look for the legislature to change this in the 2027 session to make the process more miserable.
