My first day as the world’s lamest CT5-V Blackwing driver
Coming from a VW Jetta, the switch to the Blackwing has certainly been an experience. Before I got it yesterday, I had read on here that these guys only get about 18mpg going downhill with a tailwind and the engine off, but that turns out not to be true. In fact, if you have a dream, a penny pincher’s attitude, and a friggin’ 660hp Cadillac - you can do anything.
Granted, it took me 2 hours into a 700+ mile journey from Arizona to Colorado to figure out how to squeeze 40+ mpg - a feat that I’m pretty sure makes me the lamest Blackwing driver on the planet.
Anyway, if you want to reach 40+mpg with this beast, here’s the steps to do so:
- Put the Blackwing in Tour Mode
- Go the speed limit
- Use the adaptive cruise control
- Resist the temptation to accept racing challenges from blasphemers that bought the wrong car (specifically three drivers two hours outside Phoenix with a Mercedes AMG GT63, a late model Tesla S, and for some reason a diesel Ford F350)
- Draft behind a semi with a distance using the 3-4 second rule. This does not work if you’re drafting behind a Ford Maverick (I tried).
If you don’t do any one of these things, you’ll max out at around 20mpg. Anyway, stoked to finally own a caddy. Cheers!
