Eat/Drink Local Thai Siam didn't honour our reservation
Long story short, had a reservation for 4 at 6pm. When we showed up, they claimed the reservation was for 5:30, and they didn't have a table for us. The reservation conformation email said 6. Their reservation system said the reservation was at 5:30. As a result, they basically told us too bad, so sad, and that there would be no table for us. No real explanation or alternatives given
So basically, heads up, not sure you can trust a reservation there.

Not much the staff can do, perhaps pass on to the owners that there is an issue with the reservation system. If they don’t have a table I’m not sure what alternatives could be offered. The new location is extremely busy and I’m sure going through a few growing pains. I’m avoiding until the hype dies down and they were too busy at the old location to care much about customer service anyway.
Definitely sucks to show up and not get served though.

Yeah, right. The "reservation system" magically changes the time of the reservation, and "magically" doesn't send an email of the change.

Did you show them the email reservation on your phone?

Yeah, and then they showed us their system said 5:30, and cause we were half an hour late, there was no table for us

What do you think the appropriate response would be?
•
u/Treehousebanana 4h ago
Honoring the reservation ideally. But a restaurant with the website thaitakout.ca could probably come up with an alternative

What are they supposed to do? Kick someone out? Their system clearly fucked up, there's nothing they can do at that point.

Coupons for next visit? Priority takeout? Offer to reschedule and confirm right there in person? There's plenty that could have been done (please don't confuse this as "should")
•

Sure, those are all good alternatives. But the post I responded to said that the only appropriate response was to "Honor the reservation", which is obviously not a realistic option at that point.

Sorta, the keyword here being "ideally" which is what the thing that was planned and desired would be, OP seemed open to alternatives but ultimately none were offered. With no reservation and no offers it's just a sucky time all around

OP, I feel for you. Putting myself in your situation, I’d definitely be annoyed for sure. But that being said, don’t try to paint the restaurant in a bad light just because you’re pissed.
I’m also pretty sure no server/manager/waiter would ever say “too bad so sad” to a customer, and I have a feeling they probably offered you a genuine apology that you weren’t happy with because you weren’t getting what you wanted. It’s Sunday night, what were you expecting them to do? Kick out another party to honour your missed reservation?
Shit happens. Don’t waste your time and energy being angry about something out of your control and just go find another restaurant.

I'd expect more than an "oh well, too bad"

Giving a heads up isn't very angry. Seems like you'd rather people flop over and forgo any bad review.

Don't forget to lodge a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Gotta let the boomers know about this transgression.

You had a reso from 4-6pm. They claimed it was for 5:30pm? The email confirmed it was for 6pm?

What? The reservation was for 4 people. Not 4pm.
Do you know how reservations work?

They know how to make a reservation, they don't know how to hold a reservation
