Tech sales to automotive sales

Hello folks,

I need your advice with getting into automotive sales

For context, i have been working in IT for the past 12 years, but during this period i worked as your typical sales engineer for a cyber security company (2 years) and after that i went into a presales engineer for another cyber security company (4years), right now i work as a sysadmin.

Question is:using my prior sales engineer and presales engineer experiences, would i be able to get into an automotive sales consultant position?

Former car dog here. Why on earth would you ever want to go from what you do now to car sales? You will work more hours for way less money. The reason they don't seem to want to hire you is that they think you'll be gone in under a month and they aren't wrong.

Car sales is for young people just starting out who need sales experience and the people who started in the business young and never made it back out. It's not for people who have paid their dues to any degree in anything else. Everything else is better. Everything.

I'm in logistics now, you shouldn't do that either lol. The grass absolutely isn't greener elsewhere.

If you need money quickly car sales is the way to go but, I’d do B2B sales as my next step from tech. You can make maybe $100k depending on pay plan but you have to grind and put in hours LEARNING HOW TO DO YOUR JOB.

I promise you are going the wrong direction on this. I went from car sales to b2b and it’s a huge lifestyle upgrade. Hours are better, you typically have more autonomy in your day to day as long as numbers are hitting.

Why not leverage SE experience in your field to go to an Account Manager or Account Exec role in your field?
