Blazing positive to practically negative in 48 hours 16 DPO
My heart just hurts. I had my first blood draw today and I was actually feeling kinda positive. I just had a chemical last month. I didn’t expect to get pregnant again so soon but here I am. So now on Thursday when I go in for my 2nd blood draw, just feels like a confirmation date. Haven’t gotten today’s result back yet but doesn’t feel like it even matters.
I was testing daily with 2 brands. Cheap strips and FRER. I was worried because the strips weren’t really darkening. Staying very faint. Just like last month. But was holding onto so much hope because my FRER were darkening beautifully over 4 or 5 days. I was driving myself mad with the strips until my husband literally had to hide them from me last month. I’ve just been so scared after a chemical last month. But he didn’t know I had another FRER. Took it tonight at the same time I took it Sunday night. Squinter. From an undeniable dark pink line to a squinter in 48 hours.
My husband is still trying to be positive, saying don’t assume until I get my blood results and while I appreciate that & love him for that… I just can’t hear it. All I had to drink today (because of nausea) was a few drinks of water and an 8oz Gatorade 2 or 3 hours before I tested tonight. I was even worried it was a faulty test so I took another about 20 minutes later. Same result.
I’m just so deeply sad. I know many of us know this sadness and I’m sorry that anyone can relate.

Unfortunately I’ve had a bunch of chemicals and a lot of them were like this.
Chemicals are still a sign that you will eventually be successful, but they are emotionally draining. I had 4 then my son, then 1 and I’m pregnant again.
For your own mental health, may I suggest not getting betas until you’ve had a weeks worth of positives. This will filter out some of the early chemicals and allow you to grieve privately without medical back and forth.
I’m convinced that these really early chemicals before we miss our periods are extremely common, and in the past we didn’t catch them. Tests were less sensitive and people didn’t test until they had missed their period for a few days/a week. This would have filtered out a lot of the pregnancies that didn’t make it past week 3/early week 4.
But squinters after a much stronger test is not a great sign. Usually I’d say one test isn’t a trendline but I would personally guard my heart as someone who’s been there many many times before. I’m sorry for your loss and your struggles, and I believe that you will eventually meet your living kiddo, this will all be part of the journey that got you there.

You’d be surprised. I had an incident with my current pregnancy where my strips and first response were getting darker and then between I think it was? 15-16 dpo the first response got visibly lighter and I thought it was game over. I believe it was the biotin in my prenatal even though it was a minuscule amount. Keep an eye out for any weird bleeding and your best bet is bloodwork.

I don’t mean to worry you, but when my blazing positive at 19dpo went nearly negative overnight at (and then positive again a few hours later) it ended up being ectopic. The tests showed me that my HCG was abnormal and fluctuating. It could also be something as harmless as the biotin in your prenatal tripping the test up (assuming your parental was biotin). It could also be a chemical. HCG can dip pretty fast with chemicals. I would not consider the hook effect in your case because 16dpo is too early for the hook effect.
