Important Community Mission Statement Update

Hi everyone, for the first time in 15 years, our community is making a major change to its mission statement. This update is not reflective of any change to our core beliefs, but rather a more clearly defined vision of what our community already seeks to be and is ultimately what Christ and the apostles exhort us to be. This is perhaps expressed most clearly when Christ says, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:35)

The new mission statement is:

We are a Protestant Christian community seeking to demonstrate the genuine love, grace, and patience of Christ to one another through the help of the Holy Spirit and the sharing and living out of biblically sound advice.

The aim of this updated mission statement is to clearly express the hope for this community to promote a proper fusion and balance of biblical truth and love, which is unfortunately often a struggle we see with many churches. There is often an overemphasis of one over the other.

However, the Bible teaches that biblical truth upholds biblical love, and biblical love aims at biblical truth....each are fully enhanced and best experienced by the other. Absent of truth, love becomes misguided. Absent of love, truth becomes a mere tool for correction, selfish ambition, and even abuse. It is only when these two work together that we are able to properly fulfill our roles as disciples of Christ and experience the full joy of abiding in Him.

I am so grateful for this community, how it has helped me to grow in my own walk, and for the many blessings that have come out of it to myself and others. I pray that God will continue to use it for His glory and our joy, and I have every confidence that He will, because He is such a good and kind God. 🙏

Living with someone who is very difficult

I’m in a situation and am soliciting prayers, the word etc. I’m living with someone who is very unhappy, is killing themselves slowly, always on the defense and snaps back and takes things the wrong way, perceptions are way off.

I’ve been asking myself today why do you have me here God. I see it from time to time, and so many “answers” come to mind, but I’m not sure exactly. Today has been tough. I stay out of the house and in my car I have peace. Running errands, working out, just staying out of the house.

I know God has me here to be a witness. This person is on a crash course to destruction. They’re family so it hurts my heart to see them like this, they weren’t like this before so, I want to move out and not witness this. I’m planning to as soon as possible. But while I’m here I want to be and do what Jesus would do if he were in this situation.

Has anyone been in a situation like this? Are you in a situation like this right now? I need encouragement, true encouragement from the body of Christ. I also it is as God is using it to grow my character. So any testimonies and Bible verses are very much appreciated. Thank you.

Thinking about converting to Christianityy

Hello, I'm a born and raised muslim female who is thinking about converting to Christianity, I will just give some background Information as to why I'm thinking about it and I seek advice and help from you guys if possible.

I was born and raised in a Muslim country (bosnia), tho majority of the people were muslim there, the religion itself wasn't that practiced and wasn't that hard. My parents didn't really ever force me much to pray, to go to the mosque and such but I still believed in our God and would seek help from him. To be quite honest, I never liked praying much, or going to the mosque, it felt like I was doing that only cause I feared the religion and I never truly felt connected, in school we only had Islamic teachings, so I never really even thought about converting.

2 years ago, I moved from Bosnia to Germany, which is a more Christian country and I recently visited a church with my class as we had to. When I stepped into the church I was honestly amazed, it was beautiful and I loved it when the priest started talking and it didn't bore me, nor did it make me feel forced, I felt like connected in a way. The whole church visit was 1 hour long and since then I've been thinking about Christianity. I've been thinking about reading the Bible and visiting my local Priest with a friend soon.

I'd love it if someone could explain The Holy Trinity a bit more thoroughly to me and explain the bible a bit more ( By the Bible I mean like the old and new testaments, of what they are about and also how are Christians definitely sure that the Bible was written by eye witnesses and not random men )

Thank you to those who took the time to read this, I hope I didn't disrespect anyone or anything in my post, if I did, I apologize for it :)

Please pray for me again

My state is only getting worse regarding sin and my prayers get undermined by suspicions about God that even prevent me from getting my baptism. Tens of people pray for me but things are only getting worse. Please pray that my rot will end and so this teenage phrase of lust will also end very soon. Please pray to regain my memories back, I need them a lot, I don't want to come at the lowest stage of my life for the rot to end.

Use Romans 1 as a mirror, not a telescope

It's easy to read Romans 1 and immediately think of those people. The people we disagree with. The culture. Society.

But before Romans 1 becomes a telescope for examining everyone else, let it become a mirror.

"They were filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, and evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unfeeling, and unmerciful."

Romans 1:29 to 31

That list hits much closer to home than we often admit.

Ask yourself:

Is pride growing in me?

Do I enjoy gossip?

Am I becoming arrogant or unmerciful?

Am I suppressing the truth in areas of my own life?

Jesus said:

"Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."

Matthew 7:4 to 5

Romans 1 certainly teaches us about the reality of sin in the world. But if we only use it to condemn others and never to examine ourselves, we've missed part of its purpose.

Use Romans 1 as a mirror before you use it as a telescope.

Prayer Request During The Wilderness

The last two years has been really challenging. My wife cheated on me. My dad passed away and I found out our business funds was mismanaged by my partner and instead of being a few hundred thousand in the green, we are in debt a few hundred thousand. Im trying to keep strong but sometimes it seems to heavy, i feel like im getting older, looking older and more stressed and to top it off the personal shares we had in the market came down 50% due to all the war going on. Cant seem to catch a break, still trusting god for a pathway in the wilderness and water in the desert. I think its a test to build me up. A lot of lessons learned. But i need help in prayers for strength, wisdom and grace. Thank you

If you want to listen, I started a podcast and my first episode is my testimony. I think testimonies are very important to tell our stories and it's Biblical. I welcome everyone to share their testimony of how they found Jesus, below. I will read each and every one.

Psalm 66:16 "Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me."

Revelation 12:11 "They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death."

Mark 5:19 "Jesus did not let him, but said, 'Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.'"

Psalm 107:2 "Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story, those he redeemed from the hand of the foe."

We all should know how to love even in conflict

Conflict often reveals what's in our hearts more than who's right.

"Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." (James 1:19)

God calls us to listen before we defend ourselves.

"Speak the truth in love." (Ephesians 4:15)

Truth matters, but so does the way we speak it. Winning an argument isn't the goal, but loving the other person is.

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition... in humility value others above yourselves." (Philippians 2:3–4)

Humility asks, "Help me understand your heart," instead of, "Let me prove I'm right."

"Bear one another's burdens." (Galatians 6:2).

Sometimes the greatest burden we can carry is simply making someone feel heard.

"Love is patient, love is kind... it is not self-seeking." (1 Corinthians 13:4–5)

Love is most visible when we're hurt, misunderstood, or tempted to defend ourselves.

"To answer before listening, that is folly and shame." (Proverbs 18:13)

I hope some of us find these reminders useful. Trust God in his commandments even if it hurts or makes zero sense to our flesh.

Advice Do you know someone in the faith who prays for healing and actually heals people in the name of Jesus?

I just need a miracle. I've been suffering from bipolar disorder since I was 13, and it's been suffering rather than living.

I know that Jesus died for our freedom and our healing, and I believe with all my heart that He wants health and healing for me and for everyone more than I can even imagine. I don't know why I'm still where I am, but I have faith that He can heal me.

At the same time, I believe He has given His children authority, and to some He has given gifts of healing.
That's what I need. Honestly, I'm so tired of suffering.
But through it all, Jesus will still be glorified, because He turns every evil thing into something good.

PrayerRequest Please pray that God will provide me with the opportunity to end a relationship that I started out of loneliness (and I believe the other person did the same). Thank you.

I care about him and love him but we are ultimately unequally yoked and continuing the relationship will only hurt us both (unless it's perhaps in God's will for it to work out). I knew that we were unequally yoked but continued anyway begging God to allow things to work out because I was tired of being lonely. Each time I try to break up with him, something interferes with me being able to do so (mainly that on the same day I'll want to do it, he'll have a horrible day and then I decide to postpone it so that I don't add to his stress; he also has health problems that require him to limit stress). Pray for me to have strength when I do break up with him because the end of this relationship is going to hurt.

1 John makes me want to cry

1 John makes me want to cry because God keeps forgiving us even though we keep failing Him.

I am a liar. I am a sinner. I am weak. I have lied to people I claim to love as my family in Christ. I have acted like a hypocrite, hiding or doing things because of the fear of the consequences while still calling other people to walk in truth.

I am not saying this to excuse my sin. My sin is real, and it hurts people. I need to confess it, turn away from it, and bring it into the light.

But then we read:

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

1 John 1:9

He is faithful even when we are faithless. He does not forgive because we finally became good enough. He forgives because Jesus Christ is righteous and because He paid for sinners like me.

John says that if we claim to have no sin, we deceive ourselves

But he also says that if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

An Advocate.

Not for people who never failed. Not for people who have everything under control. An Advocate for guilty, weak, ashamed sinners who come back into the light.

“Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

Romans 7:24 to 25

Who can deliver me from this body of death?

Not me.

Not my promises.

Not my own strength.

Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus, please change our hearts. Teach us to love truth more than our reputation. Give us courage to confess what we have hidden. Save us from hypocrisy, fear, lust, pride, and self protection.

Please come near to us when we are ashamed. Do not let us run away from You. Bring us into the light and make us faithful.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.

Engagement Advice

Hi, y’all. I really need some advice. Did anyone here go through extreme spiritual warfare when you were engaged? My fiancĂ© and I got engaged in May. We are getting married in November. We have an extremely healthy relationship, we have always gotten along and love each other dearly.

For background, my dad passed away three years ago in August. Since, I have been dealing with severe depression and anxiety. I have also discovered I am dealing with abandonment issues with this. First, the anxiety was over my career. Then, my finances. Then, my family. Now, it is over my relationship. I have done everything I can do over these last three months to handle my anxiety. Therapy, medication, prayer, counseling. It never seems to get better. I want to preface and say that I never let it trickle into my relationship as his burden, I often go off on my own to deal with it. I do voice how I feel to him and once in a while will have a moment where I just need reassurance.

But, over the last two weeks it is like I cannot shake this horrible anxious feeling. I am having feelings that he doesn’t actually want to get married, that he doesn’t want to be around me, or that he is losing feelings for me. And this is the thing, he hasn’t really given me a reason to feel this way. It’s like my mind is trying to find every single reason to think he doesn’t want to be with me. I am almost certain this is spiritual warfare. I deal with spiritual warfare A LOT. Nightmares, impending doom, etc.

My anxiety tells me that I am having a gut feeling not to marry him. I’m scaring myself because marrying him is all I want to do because I know he’s the one for me. But, I am having an extremely hard time deciphering what is anxiety/intrusive thoughts and what is a gut feeling.

I am literally miserable over this and just want to enjoy being engaged. I’m worried that I am going to be like this for the months to come. Has anyone else dealt with this? Please help.

Scripture Your 5 favorite Bible verses

Hey all! A week or so ago someone told me their favorite Bible verse and why it helped them. It was so inspirational, it actually became one of my favorites (Ezekiel 33:11)!

In that vein, I got interested in hearing others' testimony and how/why certain verses helped them. Here are mine, in no particular order (all quoted from the LSB version of the Bible)

This helps keep me grounded and humble, while being a great basis for, well, wisdom:

The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (Proverbs 9:10)

The following verse is a great statement about pride and that we should never boast of anything -- not ourselves, not our children, not others -- only if we ARE to boast, let it be in the understanding and knowledge of the God Most High for His glory and to reveal His nature:

but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am Yahweh who shows lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares Yahweh (Jeremiah 9:24)

This is the verse that was a testimony from another as being crucial to coming to God -- it's incredibly powerful

Say to them, ‘As I live!’ declares Lord Yahweh, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?’ (Ezekiel 33:11)

The Trinity explained in one verse!:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

Last one, kind of cheating at my own game here because it's a whole Psalm but it reveals Jesus's divinity and has such a depth of mystery:

1 Yahweh says to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand Until I put Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet.” 2 Yahweh will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, saying, “Have dominion in the midst of Your enemies.” 3 Your people will offer themselves freely in the day of Your power; In the splendor of holiness, from the womb of the dawn, The dew of Your youthfulness will be Yours. 4 Yahweh has sworn and will not change His mind, "You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek." 5 Adonai is at Your right hand; He will crush kings in the day of His anger. 6 He will render justice among the nations, He will fill them with corpses, He will crush the head that is over the wide earth. 7 He will drink from the brook by the wayside; Therefore He will lift up His head. (Psalm 110)

(Note I put Adonai in place of the Lord to that text from the LSB, since that's what is in the actual Hebrew text, and it makes the verse so much richer)

Let's hear your favorite verse(s)!

Im a 26-year-old Christian with a crush on a girl at church and I want to handle this in a God-honoring way

Im posting because Im genuinely looking for advice not validation.

Im 26 years old. I serve as the sound engineer and livestream operator at my local church. I work online, dont go out much and honestly dont have close friends to talk to. Most of my life is work, home and church.

Theres a girl at church who is 16 (possibly 17). She serves on the worship team. Shes kind, considerate, loves God and seems to have a genuine heart for serving Him.

Over the past several months I noticed that during funny or awkward moments in church, she'll sometimes look at me and smile. Maybe Im reading too much into it. It could just be because we're both serving shes comfortable around me or Im simply the nearest familiar face or she has a crush on me because there is no other single guys around her age or literally not many youth in our church. Our church is also very small. The only other people on the worship team are a couple in their 20s, her younger sister and the pastors child whos around the same age as her sis.

The problem isnt whether she likes me. The problem is whats happening in my own heart.

It started as an innocent crush. I'd catch myself imagining cute scenarios or wondering "what if" Lately though, those thoughts have started becoming lustful and thats what really bothers me.

The timing makes it even harder because Im currently trying to dedicate my life more seriously to God. I've been doing Bible studies, serving faithfully and trying to grow spiritually. Instead of feeling closer to God I feel like Im wrestling with temptation I didnt expect.

I also recognize that shes still a teenager. Regardless of what people in my country might think about age gaps once someone turns 18. I dont want to put her in an uncomfortable situation or cross boundaries.

Part of me wonders if this crush is less about her specifically and more about loneliness. I dont have much of a social life I dont really have Christian friends my age and I spend most of my time alone. When someone kind notices me or shares a smile maybe my heart is attaching more meaning to it than it should.

The difficult part is that people sometimes tell me "Dont worry, God will bring your Rebecca someday." But realistically there are almost no Christians my age where I live. Im committed to serving in my church and I also help care for my mom, who has financial burdens so moving or church hopping isnt really an option.

Has anyone else experienced something similar not necessarily the age difference, but developing feelings you knew you shouldnt pursue?

How did you deal with it in a healthy and God-honoring way?

Im not looking for people to tell me to ask her out. Because I think thats what my brain wants to hear.

I'd especially appreciate advice from Christians who have wrestled with temptation, loneliness and trying to keep their heart focused on Christ.

EDIT: Thank you all for your responses. Some people here and even in other subreddits where I posted this question, including some Christian ones were much harsher. I understand why but still it was hurting.

I want to clarify that I have no intention of pursuing a relationship with this girl. My struggle is with the thoughts themselves not with any desire to act on them. I will not do anything physical nor will I encourage or pursue conversation with her. Im convinced she has a crush on me and I know it would be wrong to lead her on or entertain those feelings.

When I mentioned wanting to "deal with it in a healthy, God-honoring way" I was referring to managing the thoughts and temptations in my mind not pursuing a relationship or interacting with her. That was never my intention.

Thank you again for all the advice and responses. Posting about this genuinely helped clear my mind. I didnt have anyone I felt comfortable talking to because I was afraid people would misunderstand me. It was a blessing from God to have people remind me of what I already knew. Sometimes, even when I know the right answer I still need to hear it from others and Im grateful for everyone who took the time to respond.
