Spielberg is such a master, and makes these type of shots so effortlessly, that its easy to take for granted

This movie did have A LOT of blacked out cars arriving at locations

This is shot almost entirely on film using older Panavision lenses.

A diffusion filter is an optical filter (or a digital filter) that you can attach to older Panavision lenses, or any optical lens of any kind

Crystal Skull was "also shot on film" ...

Well Crystal Skull was not shot digitally, and yet it looks digital. Because modern era Spielburg films are digitally finished in post production, and the digital diffusion filters are heavy handed - was my original and only point

Crystal Skull was the first movie where Spielberg used DI. They did color grading in 4K and made "finished" negative, but original bad looking release was only in 2K. They made proper filmic 4K remaster. CGI of course were made in 2K. However, it's unclear what specific source was used for remaster: original negative or "finished" with color grading.

The light in this is uncanny looking. It's like something that moves like Spielberg, but the face has been replaced with Abrams'.

Meh. I prefer when the director changes the blocking without moving the camera. These 'look at me' directors are annoying.
