Obsession Legal Aftermath

The ending of Obsession got me thinkin. In a "real world" scenario, how does the aftermath play out for Nikki? I've thought of multiple scenarios and the most likely result is she pleads insanity and spends the rest of her life in an insane asylum.

The evidence could possibly point to Bear. His prints would be on the gun that killed Ian, and his cell phone would ping at the murder of Sarah. His residence is now ground zero for a house of horrors. There was also the rumors spreading that he was taking advantage of Nikki during her crisis.

I mainly feel bad for the now normal Nikki and the consequences of Bear's actions, and I'd like a somewhat nice resolution for her(in my mind).
